Siri for iPad activating itself when headphones plugged in...

Whenever my headphones are plugged in, Siri activates itself and tells me to ask a question...

I haven't asked for it, and it often happens when I'm in the middle of watching or listening to something. It's incredibly annoying!

I used to have a problem with my music starting randomly as well, but since the update to iOS7, this has not happened.

I try not to leave the headphones in when I'm not listening to anything, but I need a solution.

Help would be much appreciated :)

Very familiar problem.
After updating to Sierra, iTunes and Siri keep prompting when I have my headphones plugged in.
I would really like an answer, because it really keeps me from doing any work with music on, or while editing film.

Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

Thought I'd post back - I visited the Apple Store Genius Bar and was all ready to swap my iPad Air. But then the nice chap at the Genius Bar spent a good half hour trying out my headphones with some of the display Airs - and, lo and behold - the same effect was experienced (reproducibly, though intermittently) on the display models.

He's going to report it to Apple for escalation, as it appears that something to do with the design of the socket causes this effect with certain headphones. I let him know about the closeness of the contacts which might be the reason for this.

Cheers,

Gopha

I Had this exact problem and I was using the Samsung Headphones so what I did was

- turned iPad fully off and on again

- turned 'hey Siri' off

- changed the headphones I was using to the Apple ones

i think that it wasn't so much the turning off but changing the headphones that fixed it for me as it didn't happen with out headphones so that made me think the problem was with the headphones Not the device.

if you are using the apple ones already try using other ones as that might help too.

hope this helped ~ I'm on ipad Air iOS 9.2

Hello,

I know this post is really old now, but I'm having this issue with my iPhone SE and apple earpods. It's like the button on the earpods is pushing itself repeatedly. When I'm listening to music, the music will constantly pause, play, skip, fast forward, and activate siri. I've tried cleaning out the headphone jack, and nothing happened. I don't think it's my phone, but the earpods themselves. Does anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

Thanks,

Zoe

I am having the same issue. Whenever my headphones are in iTunes will randomly start, change songs, occasionally play multiple at once. Also Siri will randomly pop up. It seems to be when the part of the headphones itself is touched or turned but sometimes just when the phone is sitting on a table untouched. Does anyone know how to fix it?

I have the same issue recently. Using iPhone 6 Plus... haven't had this problem before. I did have the iPhone 6 Plus changed (due to the touch screen problem) a month or two back. But I don't think it's the iPhone or iOS really... well, I also get the feeling the earphones I am using (the standard white ones that come with all iPhones) are maybe broken or something. Music skips, stops, goes to next track, activates Siri and all kinds of crazy things. I will try another pair of earphones, if I can find any... I have a bunch laying around at home... At least this is the first time I encounter this problem. iPhone user since 2009.
