Genius Bar appointment.

The apple website won't let me book a Genius Bar appointment. I get as far as entering my Apple ID then a page that says "press ok to try again" appears but it doesn't work

Klaus,

I believe that currently (I don't know when Apple changed this) you have to telephone in order to make a Genius Bar appointment or else, go into your Apple Store and make a Genius Bar appointment, go home and come back for your Genius Bar appointment. So, for greater convenience to you, telephone for help, explain that you don't want to pay $29 for a one time session and suggest that your problem is too complicated for a quick free consultation on the phone and ask for the Genius Bar appointment.

Maybe if we all complain, Apple will see how they are disappointing us and allow us to make appointments online but I believe that corporate wide it is currently impossible to do so.

I went around and around and around three successive days (I'm a slow learner) and did the in store reservation and then went home again. And since my problem was with email, I did not receive the appointment confirmation by email and missed the first one.

for context of this answer see > how do you make a genius bar appointment?

http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

Then on "get help now". This will result in a page listing your products; choose your product and follow the prompts from there. It will wind up with a page offering various choices such as a chat session, calling them, Apple calling you, and/or the Genius Bar."

¿ another not so subtle hint that we desktop users are not high on the priority list ?

It's a good thing there are all of us unpaid interns here to help out the 2nd largest company by revenues in the USA - glad to do it, BTW!!

There is no problem if you wish to post a link to my answer in another discussion; however, plagiarizing my entire post (except for the last sentence) by simply cutting and pasting it here (or anywhere for that matter - quotes or not - since it looks as though it is yours) is a problem and not appreciated.

regarding your accusation of plagiarism... report it if you wish... it looks NOTHING like it comes from me, and you know it. I thought the idea was to help folks, not gain credit!

I "quoted" your post AND pointed the OP to the thread for "context" - seems pretty clear that it was not mine

That is your opinion, of course.

There was/is no need for me to report it - I took care of it by calling your attention to it. As I had mentioned, no problem linking to a thread/one of my posts which will suffice nicely.

As this off topic discussion is not fair to the OP, I will sign out from this thread unless the OP has further questions.

Frank,

You are right. I stumbled on that today. Amongst my Apple herd is an iPod Touch. Installed the app Apple Store on that today and discovered that it will indeed let me make a Genius Bar appointment. I cannot do that without a telephone call on my iMac. One of the non-Geniuses (or perhaps she was a Genius off duty) in the store did make an appointment in the store for me on her tablet. I didn't clue in to the difference at the time but today someone kind clued me in to loading the Apple Store app.

I'll bet that there is a web page which knowledgeable Apple employees can use to make a Genius Bar appointment but we un-annointed cannot.

Every now and then Apple suffers from an acute case of Foot-in-Mouth disease. I think that this situation is one of those.

I tried clicking the genius bar on my local store web site and just kept getting sent to pay $29 for a call instead of letting me make an appointment. Then I tried calling the store and the recording said I could only make an appointment by using the web site. When I asked to speak to a real person I got sent to tech support, not sure if in-store or just wherever, so I hung up Just impossibly poor customer service. Using the Apple store app on my iPad the appointment was scheduled without a problem, just like it used to be through the web site. And it's not like the Genius Bar was full - they had plenty of openings. Just an Apple attempt to grab $29. The reps at the store are always great, but the system had really degraded.
