The ONLY thing you can do is get the friend you purchased from to log in and remove Find My iPhone from iCloud. Until that is done, the device CANNOT be reactivated. There is no way around this at all.

On a related note, I found a car on the side of the road with the keys in the driver's seat. So, I decided that if someone wnated it, they would tack up posters in the neighborhood. So, I drove it home and put it in my garage. After a few months, no one came looking for it, so I gave it to my daughter as a Christmas gift.

What a great dad I am!

Yeah, and then I got mad at the vehicle manufacturer when the police arrested my daughter for driving a stolen vehicle.

Honestly the freedom that Apple products used to have was what made them so hip and cool. Now theres just too much B.S.

And honestly if someone stole my iphone ide be a bit ******, but i think that samsung actually has the better idea, making it so you can call them and get them to kill the phone is better than just locking all phones under accounts. Ide rather have it be my choice to lock the phone rather than it just be locked to begin with.

(And yes im also a IPhone user myself, although i refuse to update to IOS7 since it has so much BS and im pretty sure it will be the death of my Iphone 4)

How bout this story.... Im an owner of a small bussiness, i buy sell and trade stuff (aka a pawn shop) A customer sells me their Iphone because they upgraded to an iphone 5. Its not stolen, And its in perfect condition. Now I reset the phone to its factory defaults in order to re-sell it to someone who wants to enjoy an apple product for a slightly reduced price. Thinking its fine i just sell it as is, and 2 days later have a customer come back raging at me because his new Iphone ends up being un-usable. Now apparently i need to track down the person who sold the iphone to me and get them to give me their apple ID and password (like thats ever going to happen, since your apple ID is meant to be solely your own and not to be shared). So in other words All apple products that run IOS7 are garbage to me, and garbage to anyone looking to sell the phone, unless their down for handing away the keys to their apple account...... Sure you stop the handful of jerks out there who steal phones, but you also just stop the average guy from just being able to sell off their phone.

-_- then again thats probably what apple meant to do, force people to have to buy new iphones straight from apple just so they can get more money. Its sad to see how far apple has fallen in terms of customer satisfaction.

Or... you educate yourself about this feature, and require that before someone sells you an iPhone, that they demonstrate, in front of you, that the device can be restored to factory settings, and then set up as new. That's a procedure you should have been doing ANYWAYS, in order to make sure that the seller's personal information is wiped from the device, and that the purchaser can use the device that you sell to them.

This is YOUR responsibility, both as the purchaser of the device and the retail reseller of the device.

Ive reset the phone to factory defaults, so i cannot access the settings. I put in which country im in, connect to wifi, but then it says i need to type in the original apple ID and password that was used to activate the phone. The only way ive found to be able to get around this initial setup is to jailbreak the phone (thanks youtube) Though that would mess it up and ide rather not do that.

How about you simply use the Find My iPhone feature, which has been around longer than iOS 7, to remote wipe the device? Or the passcode lock that prevents anyone from accessing your data?

You know why a remote kill, accessible by someone other than the legal owner, that permanently disables the phone is a BAD idea? Because then you run the significant risk that someone will impersonate the legal owner, and Samsung will kill the device. I prefer to allow the control for that option to be firmly in the hands of the legal owner, and ONLY the legal owner. I don't trust Samsung's identity verification procedure to be resilient enough for something like that.

I have actually purchased an Iphone 4s from eBay. They said they 'never opened it at all'. The Iphone we got was in very good condition. No scratches or dents. Though, it didn't come in a box. I then proceeded to charge it and I am getting the same problem. Hopefully the seller overlooked this, if not I am pretty sure it is against eBay's terms and services, and will be forced to take action. If you take it to an apple store with a receipt could they unlock it for you? Otherwise that is two-hundred pounds I have wasted...

You need to contact the seller and have them refund your money. They obviously lied to you. That iPhone was used previously.

Alright here's a really good one then. I represent the IT Department for a 1 billion in sales company. We have over 600 apple products. (ipads, iPhones, ect.) almost 95% of them were owned prior to the iOS7 release. These were purchased by the company but many of them have personal user apple ID's. iOS7 has now been released and we are getting back phones from users that are no longer with the company and can no longer be contacted because they left on bad terms but have our device locked to their apple ID. It has taken up to 3 weeks to get apple to pull their act together and unlock the device even with proof of purchase, (the orginal reciept.) which we normally don't keep because of the volume of phones we use. Since this has come to light we now deploy with a company created apple ID, tied to a company e-mail address so that we can have access to their apple ID even if they leave the company.

We don't like taking this step because we feel it takes away the freedoms from the end user but when apple decides to make things difficult for businesses we don't really have a choice other then stop buying apple products all together. This is why Apple needs to create a system for business to set around the normal channals of apple ID lock out.
