The problem is that you need to set up a password specific to the iPad or iPhone. Joaningon's link above will walk you through it.

Don't just give up on 2-phase authentication. It's important security!

THank you very much for the information you posted it worked like a champ. I tried for hours to set up my email account with no success until I used your procedure.

—Incoming Mail Server:

• Host Name = IMAP.gmail.com

• User Name =

• Password =

—Outgoing Mail Server

• Host Name = SMTP.gmail.com
