Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

A friend of mine switched to iCloud email by having gmail forwarded, then downloading to Apple Mail. Guess he uses the appropriate gmail server to send responses from Apple Mail. I could see myself getting sloppy with that method. Has anyone here tried this? And/or used aliases or multiple iCloud email accounts? Perhaps this is a good temporary solution to keep syncing straight until/if the problem is solved? I’m resisting learning a new mail program if there’s a fix in sight.

I have had the same problem. Sometimes my Apple Mail will only load some of the mail on Google. After awhile, it will say I have 32 emails downloading, but only about 10 will appear.

I went into my mail on Google and read, then deleted an email that had a 12 meg file attached. Once I did that, all of the rest of my email automatically loaded into my Apple Mail.

Could it be that large files clog up the exchange between Google and Apple Mail?

Switching between Airmail and Postbox every few days, and hard to say which one I like better. I can say this, if Airmail would let me sort by sender, I would like it more. Also, Postbox seems slower on bringing down new mail than Airmail. My phone and Airmail receive them about the same time, but my phone will acknowedgle the new message, and it could be quite a while before Postbox gets it.

Thank you to everyone who posted. I have been patiently waiting since downloading Mavericks and subsequent update for a fix to be released in regards to gmail/mail functionality but I reached my limit. The issues with mail not syncing with gmail on my laptop in a timely or consistent maner has cost me so much time and aggrevation. After responding once again to a legnthy work email via my phone while my laptop sat idly by in front of me, I realized I could not wait anymore. I downloaded Airmail for $1.99 and I was in business within minutes. Minutes--I don't know what I was waiting for--I had faith in you, Mac.

No longer will I sit waiting for gmail to sync or my mailboxes to load. I was having serious flashbacks of my PC years and actually longed for Outlook in some moments of weakness.

I will say, I don't usually like change, but Airmail is gorgeous and more eye appealing than mail with what appears to be all the same functionality.
