iPad Air - Rotation lock not working

I received my new iPad Air about 3 days ago and all was fine until recently when it seems to be stuck in landscape mode.


I've tried turning on and off the lock mode via the control centre
I've also tried changing the setting to use the mute switch to lock and unlock it, but still nothing.
Even stranger, when i use the switch to lock and unlock it it changes to the correct origentation for a second and then goes back to landscape again.


These photos show the ipad in portrait made and you can see the switch is set to unlock.

Any ideas?? Have I missed some vital setting somewhere or is this a bug / hardware issue?
PS. The above photos show the setting section, but it happens with all apps

(A) Reset iPad



Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears



Note: Data will not be affected.



(B) Reset all settings



Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings



Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

I have had this problem since I bought my IPad Air, called Apple support and was told it is an application problem. What a bunch of BS Apple support is. They need to address this but based on their response here and my experience they are not going to do anything. My impression of Apple is the company is to arrogant to admit they make mistakes.
