Mavericks keeps starting up apps on restart

Hi,

I updated OS to Mavericks but everytime I boot Mavericks, it opens many apps on booting. I probably should mention that I close/quit all of my apps before shutting down my iMac and 'Reopen windows when logging back in' is not active.

Thanks.

Konrad

ok, so I don't have a solution, but I did find something interesting about this problem. I have my iMac set to shutdown at 4:00pm and startup at 7:25am. When I come in in the morning any apps that were open when it shut down have been reopened. But if I open a bunch of apps and select shutdown from the Apple menu, and then press the power button to start it back up, no apps will reopen. However, if I open a bunch of apps, go to system preferences, select Energy saver and schedule it to shut down automatically, when I start it back up (manualy or automatically) all the apps reopen. The problem only seems to happen (at least for me) if the machine shuts down automatically!

None of the previous suggestions worked for me but this did-

Try quitting all your apps and then navigate to Library (option clicking in the Go menu if necessary) > Preferences > ByHost in the Finder (or Terminal if you prefer the command line). Find all occurances of files that start with com.apple.loginwindow. … delete them. Restart immediately.

That solved the problem for me! I was going C-R-A-Z-Y with this! How simple a solution?!? Just follow what Konradphoto outlined and it will (hopefully) fix your issue. One word of advice! If you have Chrome as one of your browsers, that can be a stubborn problem, despite Konradphoto's careful plan. If that little bugger still won't stay off, check this: Right click on the icon in the doc, select OPTIONS and be certain OPEN AT LOGIN is unchecked. That was the only stubborn cus after following the outlined plan. Thank you, Konradphoto!!!

I never knew there were options for apps accessible through the dock icon! Unchecking the item in the Dock Options and also unchecking the item in the Login Items has solved the problem. Thank you bmoede@cesa7!!

Looks like Apple needs to create a coordination between Login Items and the dock so that if the Open at Login in the Dock options is checked or unchecked, it is also checked or unchecked in the Login Items and vice versa!

Apple, what do you say?
