unread text badge icon won't go away

I have an unlocked iphone 4, running ios 7.0.3 & it is NOT jalibroken.
My text notifications on my messages app will not go away.
I receive a text, open it, respond and it still shows on my messages icon that I have unread texts.
I have tried pulling down my notifications and clearing them, didn't work.
I even deleted the texts but when I got new texts, the same thing happened.
I also have tried powering on and off and resetting my phone as well.
Any solutions? Thanks in advance!

Okay i believe i found the fix all for this...

what you have to do is send yourself a text message first

then you have to go to your messaging thread (list of all messages)

once you receive the message you will see it says (1) next to "messages"

DO NOT select the unread message! swipe to the left and delete the unread message

hit the home button and the red 1 should disappear from the message badge icon

hope this works 🙂

Did you check other text message threads to make sure there is no unread message in a different thread?

If so quit the messages app and reset the phone.

Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

I had the exact problem, cleared notifications, deleted texts, reset phone but it wouldn't disappear.

Try this solution(it worked for myself):

Settings -- Notification Center -- Messages -- Turn Off Badge App Icon

Return to Main Screen

Repeat the following steps to turn ON badge App Icon

and you will notice that the unread text is gone.

Cheers 🙂

Hey All!! I believe I have a fix for those who - like me - could not get it resolved with the steps above. I just fixed it on mine. And trust me - I tried each of the steps above several times - which SHOULD have worked but ... we are indeed talking about picky and delicate iPhones here, hehe. Ok - so ...

When the step of turning off the badge alert did not work, it got me thinking ... iMessage has several settings in the iPhone settings area. So let me play with those. And sure enough - the first setting change fixed it. Here is what ya do ...

1. Go to Settings

2. Simply Scroll Down to "Messages"

3. Turn Off the Very First Option - "iMessage" At the Top

4. Leave Settings and Check Home Screen to See the Badge Has Disappeared

5. Return Back to Message Settings and Turn "iMessage" Back On

Voila! I hope this works for some folks!!

I just tried this trick* from kaytee_loo and it worked like a charm, but I only had to proceed steps 1 to 3; I had 2 unread messages, then back to iMessages, then back to desktop, and then "2" icon disappeared!

I have to say my problem was -I think- coming from a lack of available space (0 byte available) (PS: I made some free gigs BEFORE I tried the different solutions, of course). Well, thank you Kaytee Loo :-)

*

  1. Send yourself a message
  2. Immediately go back to the Messages screen BEFORE you receive your own message
  3. Delete the message...You should have 2 unread messages now that you can't see.
  4. Send yourself another message and let this one be read
  5. Done

I thought reubenaz's idea didn't work either but what you have to do is turn off the badge icon for quite a while. At first I kept restarting it and all that and got frustrated so I just turned the red icon off completely, like too bad for the people who I have unread messages from :/ and that was yesterday, today I turned the badge icon back on just to see what would happen and BAM! It was gone like magic. I'm probably really late but here's for everyone else who had the problem too :)

Hey

this problem was really bothering me since yesterday, and i've tried all you guys told me to do, and none of them works for me 😟

So i figured this out by myself. This trick works for me.

All you have to do is send yourself a message, tell a friend to text you, and then after you got their message, send a reply text to them. VOILA! The badges icon is gone 🙂
