unread text badge icon won't go away

I have an unlocked iphone 4, running ios 7.0.3 & it is NOT jalibroken.
My text notifications on my messages app will not go away.
I receive a text, open it, respond and it still shows on my messages icon that I have unread texts.
I have tried pulling down my notifications and clearing them, didn't work.
I even deleted the texts but when I got new texts, the same thing happened.
I also have tried powering on and off and resetting my phone as well.
Any solutions? Thanks in advance!

**EASIEST FIX!** I figured out this one myself 🙂 click on the message that has the stuck notification, click on "details" click "do not disturb/mute". then exit the conversation, go back in it, uncheck the "do not disturb" button and the stuck notification should go away!

If you have your iPhone connected via cloud to your mac computer just open the text message app click on the unread message you have then click away or close message app and it should clear it on your computer and iPhone . Good luck.
