unread text badge icon won't go away

Did you delete the message thread with the blue dot?

when you send yourself a text it should pop up with a blue dot next to the thread.

swipe swipe left and delete the message thread you sent yourself.

It should clear all your notifications. If not then you have a different problem

I followed the instructions exactly and just tried it again. My message counter is now stuck at "10." Oh, well... this must be caused by a different problem.

yeah sounds like you may you may need to restore your phone i believe that's the last option

I've restored my phone and it still didn't resolve the problem.

I Have tried everything that has been listed and not one thing has worked!! I'm so frustrated!

Two options - (you may have already tried them)

1. Leave the Notification -> Badge --> Off overnight

2. Reset the phone

If anyone ever has this issue again and doesn't want to completely reset or restore, try the following:

1. Send yourself a message
2. Immediately go back to the Messages screen BEFORE you receive your own message
3. Delete the message...You should have 2 unread messages now that you can't see.
4. Send yourself another message and let this one be read
5. Done

After trying every suggestion except resetting my phone, the one that finally worked was sending myself a text message and then deleting it unread. Thank you so much to the two posters who suggested it!

I just tried this trick* from kaytee_loo and it worked like a charm, but I only had to proceed steps 1 to 3; I had 2 unread messages, then back to iMessages, then back to desktop, and then "2" icon disappeared!

I have to say my problem was -I think- coming from a lack of available space (0 byte available) (PS: I made some free gigs BEFORE I tried the different solutions, of course). Well, thank you Kaytee Loo :-)

this problem was really bothering me since yesterday, and i've tried all you guys told me to do, and none of them works for me 😟

So i figured this out by myself. This trick works for me.

All you have to do is send yourself a message, tell a friend to text you, and then after you got their message, send a reply text to them. VOILA! The badges icon is gone 🙂

Brunitou's method worked for me!

A note if you're still confused:

1) Send yourself a message from your PHONE and delete it W/O reading it on your COMPUTER's Messages app.

2) Send yourself another message from your PHONE and read it on your COMPUTER.

Notification badge gone!

[POSSIBLE FIX]

Just stumbled onto this fix. Have had this issue for over a year.

Just ask SIRI to "read messages" and she will go through the ones you cant see/didn't physically receive.
