How Do I Highlight Text With Colors In New Version of Pages

How do you highlight text in the new version of pages?

I want to be able to use different colors for different sections of text.

Thanks!

I think every time an apple update happened - it was worse than the one before and it's been getting worse for the past 3 years. When I bought Pages 09 - it was AWESOME! Simple, straight forward - everything is where you need it to be. Newer design - everything is pushed to the left but still manegable, newer design.. more stuff hidden or completely disappeared. I can't even get to see the page number I'm on without having to see thumbnails. Oh well, I also liked the old logo MUCH MUCH MUCH better - the one that it is now is just plain uncreative.

I really don't know why I don't just go and buy MS Word for mac - they're definitely improving >.>

Thank you, erniesfo. I had the same problem and you answered it. However, I got the highlight now turned to white, but I have some text highlighted in yellow and I don't know how to take the highlight away. I highlighted all the texts highlighted in yellow and did as you directed, but it won't take the highlight away. Can you give me an answer to how to change the highlight back to white on text that is already highlighted in yellow?

erniesfo, I had the same question and you answered it. Thank you!

For some reason, ALL my text on a Pages file got highlighted in yellow. I did what you said and set to white. Now where I type, there isn't any highlight, but what is highlighted in yellow, I can't change back to white. Is there a way to change a yellow or any color of highlight back to white?

Old pages used to have the handy marker just like word but now I get this hellish way of doing things that just does not work. I'd like to change the comment color to best match what I am doing (offline soundbites so my video editor can quickly reference what clips and segments need to be used).

Uggh... so not happy. Apple products are great but when engineers decide to improve things that don't need improving things go awry.

Maybe I should just buy word for mac and be done with pages. It was great in the original iteration when I got it back in 2009 but now, come on apple. Why do you do this?

Thanks for providing the in-context demonstration above. I've tried it and can't seem to get it to work. I created a background highlighted text style that now resides in the Style menu: When I then select the desired text then click on the highlight style I created I get no response. I recognize that I can use 'Highlight' from the keyboard and from the Insert menu, that has a pre-programmed background blue color and acts as a 'Comment' in comment and review mode. However, I simply want to highlight text without having to go through elaborate color selection menus to get it done. Highlighting text is one of the most common activities readers, writers, editors, and reviewers do. People do this with yellow markers when using paper. Why is simplicity of functionality in this regard so elusive with Pages? By contrast, in the 2016 version of MSWord, one clicks the mouse on the text while writing and the first options that come up are: highlight, cut and paste. This is basic stuff!! Not so with Pages. Thanks for everyone's help on here.

Apple are losing the plot these days. Everything from auto-correct on the IPad to something as obvious simple highlighting some text in the word processor. Dragging / merging folders is also an issue as is... Never thought I would say this but I am beginning to prefer my Windows machine at work! Sort yourselves out Apple - you can't rely on Steve Jobs now.

Apple leadership and product teams do not participate in these open, user-to-user solution communities. Your editorial is wasted on the rest of us.

There is no requirement that you must use only Apple applications with its operating system. There are plenty of available solutions that provide one-click text highlighting in a word processor, and other usable features not provided in Pages.

If you are considering Windows, then there is another backstory that you are not sharing.
