Stop alerts to turn on cellular in IOS 7

Whenever I open an app in IOS 7 on my iPhone 5s, and wi-fi is not available, I get an alert asking if I wish to turn on cellular data. How can I disable these alerts?

Sinoue, this is a less than useful response. In fact it's not a response at all, but simply a random statement. The question was "How do I turn off these alerts?" and not anything to do with turning off cellular data.

Why bother?

On the other hand, it's clear Apple doesn't care about its customers' experience with iOS7 because people have been complaining about this issue for over eight months now. It's a simple thing -- stop popping up notifications everytime someone wants to use an app for which cellular data is disabled. How much more of this sort of thing, which Apple is doing more and more, is it going to take to wear away the shiny gloss of the Apple/Jobs legend and let people see the ugly corporate mind that's now in charge.

By the way Sinoue; do you work for Apple? You've got the right attitude . . .

I posted this on another thread complaining about this issue, but I believe I have a working solution.

1) turn off wifi (may not be needed if you aren't near a wifi network you can use)

2) turn off cellular data for a given app

3) close the app by double-clicking on the main button and swiping up

4) open the app, dismiss the (increadibly annoying popup)

The original proposer of this suggested it may take a few cycles, but on 7.1.1, it has been working on the first try for me.

Unfortunately this does not seem to work on iOS 7.1.2.

The only way I found to stop it, is installing NoAnnoyance.

Does anyone know if they have implemented something in iOS 8?

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html is the place for this extremely irritating message - come down to the iphone icon and click on it to bring up the comment window - we've been complaining for quite a while and I had so hoped iOs8 would fix it. There are a lot of programs that do NOT need to be given cellular access that keep on begging for it.

I used to manage a customer service center (disclaimer: our organization was not quite as big as Apple). We WELCOMED feedback. I was especially interested in negative feedback; so much so that, after paying attention to it, we didn't get very much negative feedback. Funny how that works. Boo! to the Apple apologists and Amen! to Apple CUSTOMERS who just want a better experience from Apple for the products they pay for. These negative comments are worth their electrons' weight in gold to Apple ;-) -- or at least they should be. What Apple needs to weigh is whether the benefit some users may get from the message (I'd bet it's really low) outweighs its annoyance to others. BTW, to establish my bona fides... My former job put my first Mac on my desk in 1985. I have bought about a dozen myself since then, plus iPad, iPod, iPhones, AppleTV. I had been an enthusiastic Apple evangelist from 1985 to about 2013 when Apple decided to make the interface ugly. So, I don't hate Apple at all. Except for the ugly new flat interfaces, I admire their products very much.

When the feedback is sent through the correct channels, yes it is valuable.

Did your organization have a system in place specifically designed to acquire feedback form customers?

Did you organization keep track of feedback given outside of those approved channels?

If I have feedback for my grocery store, I use the suggestion box, if there is one. I talk to an employee. I talk to the store manager. I talk to the corporate headquarters. That way, feedback is going to the right people.

But if I only tell my neighbor... then that feedback doesn't go anywhere useful.

When you post feedback on this forum, because Apple explicitly states they do not monitor this forum for feedback, then you're only complaining to your neighbors. Not to Apple.

Tell me, which comments in this thread have sparked your ire? Where was anyone rude or dismissive? From what I've seen, there are either direct technical answers, or suggestion to provide feedback appropriately in a manner that Apple will receive and review.

Point out the 'Apple Apologists' that you are 'booing', and exactly what they said that counted as being an 'apologist' for Apple. Please. With sugar on top.

TOSONA - that is so true and so well said. I've also had macs forever and love the technology. Apple should PAY for users feedback. It is so important in producing a good product. Instead, they just ignore us.

Um, no. Apple specifically does not provide compensation for feedback, because it has been shown, time and time again, that this skews the feedback. Those little 'receipt surveys' that some fast food companies have on the back, where they bribe you with a free soda or fries or something? They are nowhere near as valuable as uncompensated, direct feedback. That way, the only thing that is influencing the feedback is the actual experience of the customer.

Once you start introducing a 'reward', then you're going to get inaccurate results. Since Apple wants as accurate feedback as possible, I doubt they will ever employ any kind of 'compensation' for feedback.

And how do you know they 'ignore' you? Did you know that the full-screen caller ID feature was brought back, primarily due to customer feedback? And many new features or products are influenced by feedback.

If you want a response to your feedback, then speak to someone at Apple. Call Apple Support. Ask them to document your feedback in a case. You'll still probably be recommended to use the feedback channel, though.

Just because you don't hear a response doesn't mean your message was ignored.

Sorry! I was being facetious. 😝 No. Paid response would be worthless. All I meant was that apple should value negative feedback as a way of understanding what their client base wants.

Like TOSONA said "These negative comments are worth their electrons' weight in gold to Apple ;-)" (BUT I don't think that meant real gold, eh?)

"Just because you don't hear a response doesn't mean your message was ignored." well, this problem has existed for years now. First posting in this very thread was Nov 8, 2013 12:53 PM

And Apple has always made it very clear that this forum is for user-to-user technical assistance. It is not for users to give feedback or suggestion to Apple.

There is no technical problem. The alert is working as designed. If you want that changed, then provide feedback to Apple using the correct method.
