Preview won't capture signature

When I go to add a signature in Preview, I hold the signature up to the camera and nothing happens. I've seen videos of people doing the same thing and Preview instantaneously shows a preview of their signature. I do not have the same luck. Pressing Accept just closes the window and doesn't add a signature. I'm unsure what to do now, as I need to add a signature to a PDF document and would rather not take a picture of the screenshot and paste it into the original Word document.

I know this is probably not the most popular feature but I also have the same issue.

I know this is way late. But I just had the same problem trying to capture a signature for a PDF. I tilted the desk top screen toward the ceiling light. That did the trick.

I had the exact same problem, and then I used the flashlight on my phone and held it to the behind the paper and moved it around until it was captured on the preview screen.

The answer is below the blue line must bisect the signature, nothing to do with light or anything else, this of course should be in the instructions on Preview.

10.12.5, brand new MBP

create sig from camera doesnt work at all. it shows touchpad or camera, select camera, instantly goes back to create sig. #appleitjustdoesntwork
