Using the option key does not allow this?

Nov 9, 2013 1:29 PM in response to sanjampetby mad_war,Well before I got the mavericks update, I only had to hold down the key I wanted an accent on by itself (like if i wanted an a with an accent on it I would hold the a key down) and then a list would appear with all of the different accent options and you would pick one. And now it doesn't do that.

Nov 9, 2013 1:40 PM in response to mad_warby sanjampet,I haven't moved to Mavericks yet, try checking in system preferences/keyboard, check thru the tabs there, maybe you need to change the settings in one of the tabs. If may have been a preference you had set, I have to use the option key and another to select what type of accent, but I have always used just the U.S. keyboard.
I would think that someone else who uses this function more often will chime in.

Nov 12, 2013 5:06 PM in response to mad_warby chrisrowsc,I checked in the keyboard section of system pereferences and I couldn't find anything to change that would make the accent options pop up again. I want to be able to hold down the E key and see the 5 or 6 options of different accents we can place on an E. It doesn't work anymore.

Nov 12, 2013 5:24 PM in response to chrisrowscby sanjampet,I have not moved to Mavericks, all my accents work as before using the option key, so if it has changed, try posting this in the Mavericks or I guess it is this one
http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/
All the things I have done in the past, previous to Mavericks have worked as normal with the option key and a mod key.
Like I mentioned before I do not as of yet have Mavericks. so I can not advise you in any certainty.
If none of the "normal" option keys work for you, you may want to contact Apple and let them know????
Or call Apple support 800-692-7753

go to System Preferences, Keyboard, Input Sources and choose the U.S. International - PC. I'm assuming your Macbook keyboard layout is the standard US.
It works here!

Dec 24, 2013 12:15 PM in response to mad_warby earlwgreen,Hey I just discovered I had the same problem. So I decided to see what settings were available and found the setting for Key Repeat was set too high. I lowered it to the 3rd notch, 1 being off, and voilà, it works again! It appears the key must be able to be held down for a bit longer to activate the accent pop-up menu.
Hope this helps everyone and have Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
