I really have no idea if it will work in the UK. I'm in California. You should contac US Robotics & ask them I guess.
I just got one of these US Robotics Modems just to send outgoing faxes. Set it up in a jiffy and sent my first fax. All went well.
The question I have:
is there a "sent fax log" somewhere? I have been searching my Mavericks Mac Pro and the web with little success. Any help on that appreciated!
Thanks!
Thanks! That explains it and works for me!
I also asked this question here, Lanny: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6099137
If you are interested in points, answer me there because I don't know if I can give you points here.
Note: was unable to find a way to edit the list. However, deleting the USB modem from System Preferences and re-installing starts a new empty list.
I've had a US Robotics USB fax modem for a year and a half and kept getting "check phone line".
It may have been a simple matter of going to the Advanced menu and selecting the right manufacturer (instead of "generic") and, under PPP, turning on "verbose logging".
Since I'm using this for actual faxing, not for dial-up, I cannot test the connection from the System Preferences/Network menu.
Also, I had to dig a little to discover that on my Mac (OS 10.8.5) I had to add Fax to the printer menu. Only THEN will the PDF button (under the Print menu) display Fax as an option.
Once I choose that, I can provide the phone number I am faxing to.
Unfortunately, my Mac won't supply audio feedback, so I still have to figure out a way to determine whether my fax was successful or not.

Just got a new Mac Mini with 10.9.4 installed and discovered my Apple Fax modem is no longer supported. I was going to buy a US Robotics 5637 but went to the Newwork Preference, selected Fax Modem and then Advanced and under the Vendor menu US Robotics is NOT even listed. There is a long list but NO USRobotics category.
So how did you get it to work based on the response from USR tech support. I followed the info in your response from USR but there is no USRobotics in my list of vendors.
Thanks in advance.
Do you have the US robotics modem, or not?
I can't tell what you're doing. Vendor lists and your using Network preferences makes no sense to me.
After you hook it up, you add it by opening Printers & Scanners in System Preferences, not Network Preferences. But it's not going to show up until you actually hook the thing up.
I have not purchased the USRobotics USB modem yet. I went to the Newwork Preferernce and selected Fax Modem and then clicked on the Advance tab. Under vendor is a list of USB modem models. There is no listing for USRobotics.
Are you saying that USRobtics only shows on the vendor's list after you have added the Fax Modem in the Printers Preference Pane?
Thank you
That's not how you add the FAX modem. That's how you add a modem for dial-up purposes. You add the FAX modem by using Printers & Scanners.
It's identical to the way that you would have had to add the old Apple USB modem for FAX purposes, nothing has changed in that regard.
These steps also worked for me using Yosemite 10.0.1
