Podcasts Synced to iphone 5 from itunes not Showing up in Podcast app, but can find with Spotlight Search??

Please help!

I have been using itunes for many years to take 5 hour mp3 files of the Howard Stern Show, that I have recorded, and label them as "podcasts". I then take these files and transfer them to my iphone 5 (7.0.3) using itunes. I normally sync 10 or 20 shows at a time and use the Apple podcast app to play them. The main reason I have labeled the files as podcasts is so that I can use the 15 second forward and back buttons in the podcast app.

Yesterday I transfered about 18 Stern Show "podcasts" into my phone using itunes on my Windows 7 PC. After the sync I opened the pocast app I saw only one show there?? So I then did another sync, then another, trying at times to add less or more podcasts and still I had only the one showing up.

I went back into itunes and made sure that the properties for the podcast that was showing up were the same as the ones that did not. That was all correct.

I then used the spotlight search feature on the iphone to look for the other podcasts, and I was able to find them all?? It looks like they did transfer into the phone, but the pocast app does not show them.

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Probably silly suggestion but have you worked your way through all of your podcasts in the My Podcast tab - look at how many episodes are shown for each podcast. I found many of mine were dumped in with something else that I downloaded (ie non iTunes derived).

Alternative is to rebrand them as Audiobooks or Music and play via the music app.

The problem is in the new podcast app, I only have one podcast with one title listed, (the newest one) all the other podcasts & titles are not shown anywhere.

I too have the problem with speeches that I want to listen to as podcasts. I too changed Media Kind to 'Podcast' and Genre to 'Podcast' to no avail.

Only a single episode shows up in the Podcasts APP, even though the 'On This iPhone'-list in iTunes tells me all episodes are on the iPhone............. The podcast app doesn't show all of them................ 😮

How to get the Podcasts App to show all media files labelled as podcast?

Yeah, I did that thanks. ➕

So something weird happened... I recently had my phone stolen. Got the new phone. Restored from iCloud backup (thank god I'd left it as default sync to Cloud, it had a month's worth of family photos and video I thought were gone), and everything is working fine when it comes to the iPhone side of the podcasts and syncing from iTunes.

iTunes on the mac is of course still having problems with the occasional podcast episode not downloading... but it seems strange that different hardware and same backup works just fine.

I will download a podcasts from the web. i.e. hr 1 & hr 2. I use a MP3 tag editor to tag them as podcasts, etc.

I add them to my itunes library and then sync my iphone. Most of the time only hr 1 will show up on my phone's Podcast app even though when looking at the phone through itunes I see that both are on the phone.

Solution: Remove the Podcast app from your phone and then reinstall through app store. open podcast app and now both show up. Don't understand why it does this and it ***** to have to reinstall the pod app but thats what has been workking for me until apple wants to fix it.

Can't sync podcasts ios7.0.3 - terrible

His response on the Oct 25, 2013 6:35 AM gives you a workaround to add addtional tags to the files so they appear in the apple podcast app? either do that or download SpeedUp Pro

I've copied below his instructions.

1) Download and install Mp3tag - it's a free Tag editing utility

2) Using Mp3tag, open the podcast file or directory with the old podcasts

3) Select 1 or more podcasts in the list and then 'Extended Tags' (right click or View -> Extended Tags)

4) Add the following tags and values if they don't exist:

a) tag=COMMENT ITUNPGAP value=0

b) tag=PODCAST value=1

c) tag=PODCASTURL value=<use the actual URL i.e. http://sawbones.libsyn.com/rss> (you can use fake ones)

d) tag=PODCASTID value=<any value as long as it's the same for all related podcasts i.e. 'Sawbones'>

5) Save the changes

6) After saving all the new tags, re-add the podcasts to iTunes and everything should work properly.

The only problem is that you have to do this for every podcast downloaded from any source that is not iTunes.

Warning: If ITUNESPODCASTID is not unique you'll only be able to play the last synced file, and it will maintain the first synced file's tags.

Surprisingly this worked!

My podcasts were mp3s downloaded from website since iTunes didn't have all the podcasts listed. Only changed the Media type: Podcast at first to put it in the itunes podcast.

I also had some extra steps since it didn't work initially.

1) Computer) Highlighted all Podcast I wanted to synch, changed Media type and Genre to Podcast (resynced but didn't work)

2) Phone) Settings: General: Usage: Manage Storage: Podcasts <- deleted all the data for podcasts

3) Phone) Podcast app: Manually deleted all podcasts

4) Computer) itunes, uncheck manually sync - apply changes.

5) Comp) Check sync and what podcasts I wanted

6) Comp) Sync

And it worked!

Hopefully this continues to sync. Thanks Gary, my days of frustration have been lifted.

Hi All

Final update,

You need to add the the following extended tags to your MP3 files if you want them to be treated as a real Podcasts in the Apple Podcast app. This can be done for your existing recording, lectures, radio shows, etc (The only thing I haven't figured out is if you want to add more files later onto the same podcast)

a) tag=COMMENT ITUNPGAP value=0

b) tag=PODCAST value=1

c) tag=PODCASTURL value=<any URL will do i.e. http://url.com/rss>

d) tag=PODCASTID value=<word/phrase+incremental number>

little explanation,

c) As the files won't be downloading from a website, this reference does not need to be valid

d) This value needs to be unique for each file, I tried just adding 1,2,3,4,5,etc) that didn't work and I could not see all the podcasts titles. After testing it a few times and looking at other real podtcast files (like TWiT) this ID was like a path & filename, the word/phrase was the same however the filename changed as its reference or filename number was incremented, so I did something similar. I used the same word and incremented the number for each tag in in each file. EG MP3 recording01,MP3 recording02,MP3 recording03,MP3 recording04,MP3 recording05,etc I was then able to see all the titles (47) listed inthe podcast.

Hope it helps.
