iPad Air Netflix resolution issues. How do I fix it? Looks worse vs iPad 2!

Anyone else experiencing poor image quality while streaming Netflix on the new iPad Air? I have the setting on Netflix to Good quality, which is supposed to stream HD quality and it works just fine in a previous generation iPad. Help!

iOS 7.0.3, IPAD AIR

User uploaded fileI have an iPad 1, iPad 4, and new iPad Air. It ***** that my iPad 1 with its non-retina screen has a MUCH BETTER picture then my shiny new Ipad Air when streaming Netflix. I just checked and Netflix was already set for Auto. Still only getting 480P res on the iPad Air. Here is a picture. iPad Air on top, iPad 4 on the bottom. Both on the same wifi network (30MB internet connection).

Finally fixed my issue.

Went to neflix account settings on computer and changed playback settings from High to auto.

has to do with how it senses the Ipad Air, and this fixed it for me.

Logged in with ipad air and it streamed in sharp HD again.

I had it set to High and ipad 2 played just fine, but looked real bad (640x 480) on ipad Air.

so now it is on Auto .. Much Better!

Hope this works for the rest of you

Not sure, man. My issues were happening even though my setting was on "Auto". Since I complained about it, something has definitely changed automatically, though, because I didn't do anything and now Netflix seems to be popping into HD on my iPad Air. Finally! Sometimes it's hit and miss but that is more likely attributed to my network speeds fluctuating.

I'm starting to think it's on Netflix and not Apple.

I do see how if some people changed their setting to "Auto" it would help. Definitely do that, guys.

What is also confusing is that there seems to be a lack of complaints about this issue.

Does this mean that only a select few iPad Airs are behaving this way?

Or do most people with iPad Airs not subscribe to Netflix?

Or do most people with iPad Airs not even notice the poor quality because they don't have other devices to comapre with?

I think there's just a handful of us that this is happening to or maybe we're just the only ones noticing it. With so little attention to this issue, I don't think it will ever get resolved by the powers that be.

I think most people do not pay attention or dont care.

I have an Ipad mini retina that does the same thing and the Ipad 2 that I used to have was fine.

I'm pretty sure it is across the board on all ipad Air from what I found in other forums as well.

Some of the time it loads at 720p but most of time its at 640x480 and looks so bad.

it should easily handle 1080p because Amazon prime video loads fast and in HD

Comcast users rejoice! Comcast and Netflix have reached a deal:http://www.pcworld.com/article/2100600/comcast-netflix-reach-interconnection-dea l.html

I hardly believe this will solve the issue as I have perfect video on one older iPad but only the iPad Air has issues. Seems to be a compatability issue with the new Air, not bandwidth blocking from your ISP. I would love to hear from people with Comcast if this makes the Air work better now.

I'm hoping that Comcast/Netflix controversy is the issue and that it will be solved...

Perhaps Comcast only has the ability to 'throttle' Apple's newer hardware and not older models (just a theory...)

Also, as I have said before, it's funny/interesting how not that many people are complaining about this. Perhaps we just got the wrong batch of pads that have that defect. 😟

Honestly guys I really don't think it's an Apple issue. Mine has since corrected itself and all other issues I hear about this it's usually the same thing:

Everything works fine but Netflix

YouTube HD works

Hulu HD works

ESPN HD works

Netflix HD doesn't...

Hmm....

Clearly, this is Netflix not registering some iPad Air's as HD devices capable of the higher quality steam.

My thought anyway, Netflix issue.

Or.... I guess if it IS Apple, it's that Apple needs to release a small patch that corrects small amounts of iPads that are not sending correct signals?

HI all,

I get the resolution on my Air when I stream Netflix that everyone wants, and I have to agree with the person who said that it's not an Apple issue. It's a Netflix issue, and maybe this will help.

We were getting poor resolution on all of our devices using Netflix, so we did some research and found that your resolution will go down with the number of users. We found a place on the Netflix website where you can increase the number of users for a small bump in cost. When we selected that option, resolution became great, and there's never a problem with buffering or login. I don't recall where it was on their site, and it wasn't very easy to find, but that's what fixed it for us.

Good luck
