bluetooth keyboard crashing iOS7

With my Verbating foldable mobile bluetooth keyboard, I had 2 iPhone 5 crashes within one hour using Notes Application.

I was using the Keyboard heavily for notes during a meeting, when the iPhone screen froze suddendly. No user action: touch, keypress, volume buttons, power button, middle button would make the iPhone 5 with iOS7.0.3 react in any way.

Then, after 2-4 minutes or so, my iPhone rebooted, took quite some time, then everything worked as normal again.

The same thing happened again after 20 minutes.

This did never happen for me before, i _never_ observed iOS crash before in that way (longpress on powerbutton does not have any effect).

Afterwards, I recognized that email software lacked the lower menu bar, when viewing mails, or pressing the edit button. Only after a restart I could see the menu bar again in these use cases.

Strange - seems that my buetooth keyboard has dearranged quite some stuff inside my iPhone.

I upgraded to 7.0.6 on Feb 22, 2014 and experienced the keyboard crash two days later. There's another type of crash I experience as well. Sometimes Safari exits when I start to type into a web screen form. I can usually start Safari back up, try again, and the problem happens again. Then I'll try with my bluetooth keyboard turned off and everything seems to work ok.

Apple? (echo . . . echo . . . echo)

Are you listening? (echo . . . echo . . . echo)

If you are listening, here are a few practices you may want to read up on before your next release:

System integration testing

Regression testing

Performance testing

User acceptance testing

But then again, you actually have to spend some money to pay for testing resources.

I have been having this same issue among many other ios 7 bugs. I have had my iPad 3 since it came out. Just recently I purchased a Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard case. Since I got it I have had this issue twice.

I open my case, connect the keyboard and press something on the screen. Then suddenly it freezes. Then it stays that way and will not respond to any touches or buttons at all. A few minutes later it turns off and I have to restart it. After that everything returns to normal, quite a pain. I think it sounds exactly what what everyone else is having.

I think only Apple can fix this so it appears we have to wait for the fix. However, I've noticed a pattern where if I turn my bluetooth keyboard on too soon, the crash tends to happen. What I mean by "too soon" is if I click on an editable field on a webpage and turn on my bluetooth keyboard about the same time the screen keyboard appears, it seems to trigger the crash (freeze). On the otherhand, if I wait until several seconds after the screen keyboard appears before turning on my bluetooth keyboard, the screen keyboard goes away as it should and the crash does not seem to happen. At least this is the trend I've noticed. How about others?

Does anyone notice that sometimes the ipad keyboard slides up by just touch the screen while connected to the bluetooth keyboard. If you type with the ipad keyboard present, I LOCK UP

Does anyone know if ZAGG is aware of the issue, and if so, what they are saying.

I was told by a Genius, that you need to get an update BT keyboard that support IOS7 from the manufacture, that means sending in your old one for a new one, any comments on this.

or

Do you think this will be corrected with 7.1.1

I had similar problems to what have been covered here. Ipad freezing and taking ages to reboot, keyboard disconnecting etc. I have a Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard with iPad 2 running the latest IOS 7 . Funny though that my apple bluetooth never had the problem. I stopped using Belkin it was so bad. I have just upgraded to IOS8 and so far, two days later, I have had no problems with the Belkin Keyboard. Either the install of IOS 8 fixed something or Apple have fixed the problem in IOS 8. Hopefully writing this post doesn't jinx it. :-)

Well IOS 8 didn't fix the problem. After about a week I started to get the crashes etc again.

I then searched the internet trying everything suggested. Most suggestions were not fixes. One solution however seems to have fixed the problem. Now 3 weeks and no weird behaviour. I changed the name of my iPad. I had xxx's iPad. I changed it to xxx iPad. i.e removed the apostrophe. Voila, no more crashes.

IOS 8, with a name with no apostrophe and my belkin ultimate keyboard now works perfectly. Interestingly my Apple bluetooth keyboard never had any issues no matter what the name so it must be something to do with non Apple keyboards.
