podcasts within podcast app no longer refresh

I'm using the Podcasts App 2.0 on an iPhone 5 with iOS7 and recently some podcasts no longer seem to "refresh" as they used to prior to the update.

I prefer to manually refresh my podcasts that I subscribe to and then download individual episodes instead of automatically refreshing every day, etc..

Certain podcasts when I browse the "store" and do a "search" it shows newer episodes for particualr podcasts that I can manually download from there, but for some reason the subscriptions/new episodes within my app on my iPhone do not show up.

My settings are: subscription = ON, refresh podcast = manually, episodes to keep = all, auto-download = off, sort order = new on top, play order = newest first

Not all podcasts are doing this.

I've even deleted certain podcasts, searched the store and re-downloaded/subscribed and that didn't solve the problem. I actually had even more problems doing that as some podcasts downloaded really old episdodes only and not newer ones, and/or certain episodes gave me an error message saying "podcast episode is temporarily offline" when I tried playing back a new episode.

I've done a search in this forum and a lot of the issues seem to be centered around syning between devices which I don't do for my podcasts and I haven't syncd in a few months. Even after syncing, the issue still persisted. Really frustrating.

Suggestions? Thanks for reading.

Meanwhile i found out, that the main problem in my case is Internet-connectivity. I use my iPod touch mostly offline. The podcast-episodes are synchronized with iTunes, but they are not shown in the Podcasts-App.

Instead of synchronizing three times as described above, in my case it's sufficient to get Internet-connectivity. The Podcasts-App seems to check the synchronized episodes on the Internet, before showing them in the Podcasts-App.

Nevertheless i hope that Apple will fix this soon. Not everyone has Internet-connectivity and especially Wifi-connectivity all the time. When synchronizing with iTunes it should work without Internet-connectivity!

Will have to think on that one. I purposely have wifi and bluetooth off to exptend battery life.

This weekend I ended up doing restore on iPod again, it stopped sending episodes from iTunes to iPod. Still doesn't remove episodes from list in app, the file are not on deivce as can be seen when looking at iPod contents through iTunes and not being able to play them on device.

Yes! Thank You DyaNaSore! This is what I'm experiencing

***??!!!

Why do my iPod touch and iPad need to talk to Apple before they will let me play items Apple already let me download on another device? They don't even do this for items I've purchased from the store. I don't have wifi at home, so if I sync my devices and forget to logon to wifi at work, I can't get to my new episodes that I know are on the device. Why would they do this? And I just figured this out because I was uninstalling the podcasts app and reinstalling after I synced to show the new episodes, which meant I had to get online to get the app. At least when I thought that reinstalling the app was the answer to my problem it was clearly a mistake, now I', afraid they think this is a new 'feature" - making sure I have the latest album artwork or some such nonsense.

Please Apple, fix this. Not everybody has connectivity everywhere, all the time.

A senior advisor at AppleCare has stated that individual podcasts depending on what it is will sync while others will not sync across devices. Nothing to do with iTunes settings or podcast settings but rather just an individual podcast issue. Even some advisors had no idea about this and were unclear that this was the case.

When I updated iOS on iPod touch it seemed to correct episodes not showing in app when iTunes showed them on device. However, over a few days the episodes in app got out of sync with iTunes again. played and iTunes deleted episodes still show in app, new episodes in iTuens getting sent to iPod but not showing in app. Will try turning on wifi then syncing again as someone else suggested above. Doesn't make sense but can't hurt.

I had this problem, too. After an hour-plus chat with Apple support, here's what worked:

I had to turn on WiFi. Podcasts asked me to log in to the iTunes Store. Magic. All of my podcasts were restored.

I usually keep WiFi off to (1) help with battery life -- I'm mostly using my iPod where there's no WiFi, and (2) to make sure I'm not downloading something I don't want -- I have a limited Internet connection when I'm at home.

Maybe this will work for others.
