I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay.

I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay. I can play itunes music through apple tv. But can not get my mirroring to work. I have accomplished this at another location. Just not home on my apple tv. I keep getting a message "could not connect to apple tv"? I am 10.9 on my macbook, apple tv 6.0.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

A big thanks to you, Apologetix. (And don't apologize, my friend.) Turned off the MBP firewall and hit AirPlay icon. Nothing. Then, restarted the MBP and again tapped AirPlay icon. MBP instantly connected to AppleTV. Works beautifully. This info should be made easier to find. To summarize: SYSTEM PREFERENCES > SECURITY & PRIVACY > FIREWALL to OFF > RESTART > AIRPLAY ICON.

I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay.
