4G in Belgium

Dear Apple / customers

When will we have 4G unlocked for carriers that provide 4G in Belgium? Mobistar does not have 4G and with the iPhone 5 we have the possibility to use 4G only on the Mobistar carrier. Proximus and Base provide 4G but with an iPhone 5 it is not possible to use these fast networks?

Does anyone has an idea when we Belgians can access fast networks with our beloved machines?

on Apple store it it sold as 4G UNLOCKED iPhone so I assume it works on ALL 4G networks otherwise they should call it 4G Mobistar to be honest and correct... when you buy a 3G unlocked iPhone I think it's natural to deduce it works on all 3G networks...

Did you read the fine print in http://store.apple.com/us/iphone/about-unlocked

Credit check may be required; must be 18 or older. An unlocked iPhone may be activated on supported GSM carrier networks. See www.apple.com/iphone for more information. Service may not be available in all areas or at the signal strength, rates, speeds, or bandwidth as demonstrated. Wi-Fi Internet access required for some features; broadband recommended; fees may apply. Some applications, features, and services are not available in all areas.

lol *hands*

I hate to question your intelligence but you refererred a disclaimer valid for US Apple store... here EU is calling hallooo?? and in EU if you sell some thing 4G it has to work as 4G if you put limitations it has to be clearly stated at the moment you buy it, clearly and without any doubt, if you don't do that it's infringment of consulmer rights.... period

I'm an apple fanboy but I can agree with you Pablito - that is, if Apple had sold you a phone labeled '4G' you might have a case... but the fact is they clearly spell out in their Belgian store:

They also give you a link to the list of operators on whose networks you could use 4G here:

Only Mobistar appears for Belgium. So they never said their phone would work on 4G anywhere on any network. Disapointing, I know. I live in Brussels and have an iPhone 5 too. I'm coping with 3G for now since I'm on BASE. But I may switch to Android if they don't give BASE 4G access soon... I'm due for an upgrade in May...

finally a clever answer :-) thank you, actually I've found also those advices but I after I faced the 4G issue, and you have to look carefully to find it, I'd have preferred a clear statement you can't miss if you know what I mean... anyhow...

indeed it's very sad to see Android user browsing at the speed of light since a month while we, Apple users, are obliged to wait for a carrier who is still on test phase! and just to protect their economic interests...

here in Belgium Android user are having big laughs about 4G iPhones who can't use 4G networks... very sad

Just because a phone is sold as 4G, it does not mean that it will work with 4G in your particular area. There are other factors at play here.

The phone is sold as 4G because it is capable of connecting to 4G, but first, you do need to insert a 4G sim card in the phone and you need to be in an area where 4G can actually be received. If you don't have either of these, then the phone will not work.

I happen to live in an area that is badly served by 4G and I have a 4G phone that will work on 4G, but I cannot get it in my area yet, so I have a 3G sim card in my phone instead. Once 4G does arrive in my area, I will upgrade to a 4G sim card and use 4G, but until, you just need to be patient.

Dec 19, 2013 6:39 AM in response to Ethmoid

Ethmoid: for clarity of information in Belgium there are 3 carriers, 2 of them are running with success a 4G network but Apple is not allowing to connect to them (only in 3G) while Android users are using and enjoying the 4G network without any problem, Apple has authorised for 4G only for a 3rd carrier (which is Apple's commercial partner) but this carrier is still on test phase and in few cities only (!!) since it is suffering many delays, so currently there is no option for iPhone users to access 4G in Belgium despite there are two existing and running networks.
