Do Not Localize string issue in Mavericks Bluetooth setting

Hi,

Today when I tried to use my Magic Mouse with my MBPR 15" I found the Bluetooth feature stopped functioning, then I tried to open up the Bluetooth setting in my MBPR, and it shows the following:

User uploaded file

It shows "do not localize" string in the setting dialog. I guess it's not normal?

BTW, I restored the Bluetooth function back to normal by rebooting my MBPR.

On 21st January 2014 I bought brand new MPR 15' 512 SSD 16GB.
After 2 weeks my problems with Magic mouse and bluetooth started.

I tried everything:

-SMC reset

-PRAM reset

-new batteries

-piece of paper between bateries in M

-deleting com.bluetooth.plist from preferences

-reconecting MM- changing it's name

Nothing works....

It is happening every 2 weeks, or maybe if I am lucky- once a 3 weeks.

It's always the same, as everybody here writes: the only solution (temp) is to shut down computer and it starts to work. It shows "DO NOT LOCALIZE" and bluetooth is not possible to turn off.

What shall I do? Should Apple replace bluetooth module in my MBP? or it is software issue, so I should wait in patience for another update of Mavericks? Please help. Thanks for any advice

So was it hardware issue? Did you have still your mac on guaranty?

I can't even imagine situation when i buy external Bluetooth to brand new

Laptop worth 4000$... Embarrasing..

Did you go to authorized Apple Service?

Is it a matter of Bluetooth module?

I wonder how, people having well working

Computers with previous osx, starting having

Such silly issues after mavericks installation.

Anyone tried a clean re-install to see if that worked?

I ran the Apple Hardware Test software http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 and didn't get any problems. In searches I also encountered the issue of the PRAM battery going bad, but there doesn't seem to be any utils or methods to find out the voltage to figure out whether it needs to be replaced. And the instructions for replacing it (from iFixIt) are seriously long, basically taking apart the entire iMac. Yuck.

Am trying the external bluetooth dongle as it's cheap and much simpler than the other options. My iMac locks up almost daily, I have to screen share/VNC to get into it and restart it. Very very annoying!

Update: I bought an IOGear USB dongle, and it worked for a little bit, then quickly acted flaky (mouse pointer jumping all over screen, or back to top left). I went through the various motions with Bluetooth Explorer from XCode - switching the active bluetooth and messing with various other settings to see if they had any effect. Couldn't get it to work consistentnly so I eventually gave up and took the USB dongle out. Now my iMac has not had any issues with the built-in bluetooth for at least 5 days, which is a record as of late. Wonder if just some setting/resetting with bluetooth explorer had a positive effect.

Following up to my own post, going on 2+ weeks without a bluetooth problem. I don't know exactly what the problem was, but trying out a USB bluetooth dongle (that didn't really work) and using the Bluetooth Explorer app fixed it.

For those with issues maybe try running bluetooth explorer and changing/changing back some settings to see if that helps? Wonder if the Bluetooth Explorer app resets or corrects something in the bluetooth stack that otherwise is causing the flakiness.

1 week ago I tried another thing with BT do not localize disconecting problems:

I connected internet with ethernet adapter, so I turned off WIFI to do not interfere with Bluetooth.

1 week passed and (luckily) nothing occured 🙂

hope this might be the correct path to the sollution (temporary of course) just to realize what causes the issue.
