Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Thanks,

SF

Mail is not connecting to the server after OS X Mavericks update. Meanwhile the same setting is working from Ipad, Iphone and even in windows mail. We have an exclusive mail server in our office. Connecting to mail server is easy only on the same server network with the same setting only by changing the server local address, but not working by the server IP from the internet.

First, I don't want to take credit for getting rid of the All Mail showing up in Mail...that was another very astute person earlier on this thread. But it works so why not.

Trouble is that there are side effects (see earlier posts)

And for many leaving it visible has had no ill effects, others have removed it but still have the original problem. There seems to be more than one issue at work here.

The biggest problem for me is that it WAS working close to perfect in 10.9.1.

A few minor glitches here and there, but against the previous updates entirely tolerable.

Then comes the update for the update for the update, promising salvation and I'm back to zero... zero correct unread counts, zero synchronisation, etc.

Currently downloading Mavericks to do a clean install, as suggested by a high level Apple Care Employee in Europe, as the last resort.

That is, unless one of you guys comes up with a solution.

Which, by itself, is insane... besides the fact that I've tried moving my mailbox to Outloook.com, the only service out there capable of providing a migration-function of some sorts.

But I guess copying 16GB in over 160.000 messages collected over the course of 7 years is even too much for Microsoft to handle.

The import-progress, at least, has been at 1% of the past 3 days now... Been there, done that, got the t-shirt... and the action figure.

What's getting to me is this immature behavior of Apple and Google.

It's not like it’s a few private users here and there not being able to access their email for a play-date.

There are professionals/companies who - in the course of this embarrassing debacle - lost their entire email, thereby their existence.

I'm afraid not many in the Valley have matured much since the inception of the web and are unaware that people depend on them.

If that were the case, they'd have sat down by now and found some kind of compromise to solve this issue, thereby starting to accept the responsibility they have towards the world.

Do you really think that any competently operated company would entrust their valued communications to a free consumer (especially one as openly used as a revenue stream as Gmail) system. There is a reason that real business communications systems exist, this is one of them.

If you value your communications and scheduling system pay for a real one. And then pay to back it up properly, les you "lose your existence"

I’m sorry for not having made my point clearer.

Implying that you’ve been following this thread in its entirety, along with the countless others out there, you will have noticed that pretty much every email service (managed or unmanaged, “real business communications instrument” or less so) is experiencing avoidable difficulties.

In the second part of your argument, you’re pretty much making the point that Apple products are exactly that – consumer products, therefore not suited for professional use… Ironic, given the tremendous effort they are investing into pitching their products to enterprises.

Since I don’t intend to derail this thread with this pointless discussion, I’m closing here.

Oh dear. Apple Mail has gone wrong for me again today!!

Following Bob's great news and advice last week, I had downloaded 10.9.2, and then unchecked 'all mail' in my 3 Gmail accounts, and then 'rebuilt' the mailboxes. And hey presto, all was back to normal with Mail. New emails showed up immediatly and it kept in sync with iPhone and iPad. Great. I parked Airmail and transferred back to Apple Mail, and have had a happy few days...

But today Apple Mail is broken again 😟

Mail on the Mac is no longer reflecting changes made on the iPad/iPhone (or Airmail - now that I've taken that out of mothballs again). I rebuilt the mail box again, and the Mac Mail got updated after that, but its not staying updated. Its useless again. (And I've been into Gmail to make sure that 'all mail' IMAP box is still unchecked - and it is).

What happened? The only thing I have done that is different today is to fire up an old Windows laptop, and I opened Outlook on that while my wife was using the Mac for a while. I needed an email so opened one of the Gmail accounts on it under Outlook. That's the only thing I've done differently today. And I'm NOT suggesting that opening an account on a Windows machine could possibly affect Mail on the Mac - its just that is the only thing I can note as being any different. (By the way, Outlook on the Mac is keeping in perfect sync with Gmail, iPhone, iPad and Airmail!).

I've checked the bug I filed with Apple: Bug 15516430: "Gmail IMAP emails on Mac with Mavericks (inc recent s/w update) not in sync with other devices (eg iPhone, iPad)".

This bug is still reported as a duplicate of another bug, and that bug is still 'open': Duplicate of 15440215 (Open)

I've transferred back to Airmail.

Bob, I'd be really interested to hear if your Mail is still working ok, and if it continues to do so for more than the few days that mine worked for.

So with the new update, I STILL cannot get new mail unless I quit Mail or take all accounts offline and then back on again. I have an IMAP account through Cox Cable, and 10.9.2 did not help at all.

Also, why are so many people in this thread talking about their Gmail IMAP problems? Isn't it titled Mail not syincing IMAP account NOT GMAIL?

As a longtime Apple supporter and user (since '92), I can't recall a time that their output was ever so shabby.

I'm just about ready to switch to Airmail. Never thought I'd say that.

10.9.3 anyone?

Mar 2, 2014 12:44 PM in response to Tonyc19v

Hi Tony,

Well, my results have definitely degraded. I have had several emails that still show as unread in Mail, even though I have read them on my iPhone. Taking accounts offline and one, pressing the get mail button, and synchronizing did not change the status of those emails. Only quitting and restarting did. Hmmm, sounds like what was happening before.

Definitely very frustrating and not just with Gmail. I have a Network Solutions business account that is not prefectly syncing either.

The problem is that over the years I have built an extensive folder system under On My Mac that is essential for running my business. If I switch to another mail program, I doubt I can import/duplicate that.

As folks have mentioned on this thread, it is both mail and internet access that in 2014 should run seamlessly in an operating system. If I was Apple, I would get every available employee on this problem before they lose more credibility here than they can ever get with whatever "super cool" thing they're planning next.

My wife uses Entourage on an older OS and I refuse to let her upgrade to Mavericks based on my experience. I wish I hadn't.

Hi - same problem here with update as of last week. My inbox is the biggest casue of frsuration - e-mails show up and then go away - sometimes one at a time, some times 3-4 e-mails will load, and then vanish. I am using godaddy as e-mail server, imap connection. I have changed my password, rebuilt, re sysnced, quit mail, re-opned, changed ports with no luck - e-mails still come and go. Inbox loads fine on iphone. Inbox on my MBP is F*ed.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

...same problem here...(although I have NOT upgraded to Mav yet...)

My inbox is a huge cause of frusration - e-mails show up and then go away - sometimes one at a time, some times 3-4 e-mails will load, and then vanish. (just like the person before me said)

(only some emails vanish...they are peeps in my address book and these emails are still on the server, still load elsewhere and aren't going to junk or anything like that... and I do not have any rules set up ...in addition, I do not have anti virus software or this type thing.)

I move emails to the mapped folders and they seem to go, but then I check on another device and NOPE...it didn't sync.

My same email worked fine before...this is new and I do not have any changes on my system (other than normal updates) or in my email preferences...

I am using godaddy as e-mail server, imap connection. I have rebuilt, re sysnced, quit mail, re-opned, changed ports with no luck - e-mails still come and go. Inbox loads fine on iphone. Same inbox loads fine in Entourage...I've tried everything.

HELP!
