why folders disappear from finder sidebar in mavericks?

When I hold down the option key, Library does not appear in the Finder Go Menu list.

When I found the file by looking in my preferences folder and deleted it, I restarted and the behavior is still the same.

When I drag a sharepoint into Favorites it just makes a blank folder with a question mark.

Everything was fine until an update a couple of weeks ago.

Does anybody test this stuff before they issue updates?

I don't want to tempt fate but I no longer have this problem since 10.12.4 OS X update. It may just be a coincidence but it used to happen to me a lot and since this update quite a while ago my sidebar has been well-behaved. You may want to check you have this latest update. Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't working in 10.12.4 either.

My server is also running 10.12.5 so everything is up to date.

I've seen this happen off and on over the years and it's sure nice when it works. Then I get spoiled and now this.

Since installing Sierra, whenever I open/save, all my favorites on the side are gone.. Makes it a real pain to navigate to the right location. Then they disappeared altogether! I deleted sidebar preferences file (as someone else mentioned) and restarted and my favorites came back in the regular finder, but still never for open/save. Have we heard anything from Apple on this?? How is this not a major concern for them?? I was looking at DefaultFolder as a third party solution, but don't want to pay for anything TBH....

I can confirm, same issue here, with networked AFP shares. Really surprised this isn't resolved yet as the thread started in 2013! Look apple!

There is a workaround for this problem.

Place aliases of your network drives into a folder on the desktop, then drag that folder into the sidebar. It will remain there and the network drives within will be quickly accessible.

Go to Finder in the upper left corner of the screen. Then go to preferences. You'll see general, tabs sidebar and advanced. click on sidebar and checkmark all the files you want on your sidebar.

My problem is similar, however it's only when Finder opens from another application, such as AI or uploading a photo from FB. When the finder window opens, there is only "Media files" available

Most certainly. I sent a bug report in and it was deleted because it was a duplicate of another already reported.

The folder of aliases isn't very elegant but I think of it as a "special sidebar for network drives" and then it all feels a bit better. After all, that's what the sidebar is really - aliases.

Nah, I'm running 10.12.3 and it's still doing it 😠

How is your network managed? I've come to attribute my network mapping issues to the fact that we don't have a proper Window-managed network - just running from a Synology NAS.
