ios 7.0.4 Update battery issue again!

I just did the update and after I unplugged from charging overnight my battery drained over 50% in a 1/2 hour on standby!!!! Why does this garbage continue to happen? Anyone else having this issue. FYI, before update I had everything turned off to save battery life so no stranger to the ios7 battery issue but thought it was not going to happen with an update.

Here's my story:

My iPhone 5 I had for a year all of a sudden rapidly died and basically fried itself and wouldn't turn back on. Lost a years worth of picture because I didn't back it up. (My fault). Apple store was baffled. Second "new" phone rapidly died since the day I got it, exactly like everyone is describing. Went back on Tuesday, they wiped it clean and reinstalled everything. Didn't work. Yesterday, it died and never turned back on. Lucky freaking me! So today, I got another phone from them. Management knows me now and made sure I got another one. We didn't update it to iOS 7 or backup from my iCloud. Just going to take it one step at a time. After reading this thread, I may wait until January for the 7.1 update. iOS 6 is doing wonderfully on battery life but I do miss iOS 7. I don't really know what to do. We shouldn't need to worry about these ridiculous issues.

Hi

Sorry to here it did not stop your battery drain, My I P 5 was charged 14 hours & 48 minutes ago & has 88% battery left! If I turn back on the cellular data it just starts doing stuff & drains the battery.

It is most strange that it appears to be different things for different people causing this! If yours still drains in airplane mode, your phone is next to useless then.

This is getting very frustrating!

You would think that Apple would have a moderator on here looking at our posts & making encouraging comments.

Been reading the continuing posts so I wanted to jump back in the pool...

While I was having the drain my phone didn't fall into any of the mentioned issues. I.E. My usage and standby were not close in time. I had no keyboard shortcuts. I put it in Airplane mode, shutting off cellular data, and it still drained just as quickly. Restarts, mods to settings, etc. had no effect whatsoever. It wasn't until they gave me a new phone that my problems disappeared. As of today, 4 1/2 days after restoring everything it's still going fine. Not to say the iPhone ever had awesome battery life but I've been using it pretty often this morning (it's a slooow day at work!) and I'm at 80%. That's from taking it off the charger and first using it 4 1/2 hours ago.

How many of you have been oh so close to just throwing it against the hardest wall you can find? I know I was...

Right there with you on wanting to throw the phone against the wall, Cinoclav. Or just chuck it in the trash.

It's disappointing that Apple hasn't officially addressed this. How are we supposed to know if they're even working on it? I understand that 7.1 is coming down the pike, and they don't always (ever?) reveal everything that's going on with updates, but with an issue this signficant, we should at least hear "We're aware of the problem and working on a solution".

I'm inclined to agree with whiller123 in regard to Santa's sleigh being heavy with Android devices this year. He'll definitely have a phone in there for me, and I've seen comments all over the place from Apple users talking about making the switch. It's even popping up in Amazon reviews, shoppers saying that they went with whatever Android phone/tablet rather than an iPhone/iPad like they'd planned, because ios7 is too buggy.

Even if this is just a "vocal minority" type thing and these issues aren't affecting more than a tiny percentage of users, Apple still needs to consider the "vocal" aspect because their reputation is still taking a hit. I know they'll sell millions and millions of devices over the holidays anyway, but if the bugs aren't worked out by then (which doesn't look likely), what happens once everyone receives their shiny new Apple device and whatever tiny percentage of those turn out to have bugs?

Hi

There are more people than we think with this issue, We have had an IOS day today in our office as 6 of us have done the upgrade to 7.0.4, only 1 person has had no issues with battery drain.

My IP5 has been replaced by Apple and still has the problem, one Guy has just binned his & bought a HTC 1

That leaves 4 of us now with this battery drain 1, IP4S and 3 IP5's we have all turned off cellular data to see if the drain stops, this worked for all of us but 1 which is an IP5. My phone will go 48 hours or more with this turned off which isnt much help as I have the phone for the mobile internet & pay for unlimited data so as I can be connected whilst out & about. At least now though I know where my battery is going.

I also feel like throwing my phone at the wall but feel I may eventually get more satisfaction by throwing it back at Apple.

I will be back on IPhone support live chat in a minute & see what they have to say today.

AkuraMadrid for President!

Thank you for providing a workaround fix to the make my 3-day old iPhone useable again!

I realize that this solution will not work for everyone, that Apple's issues should not have to solved via chat boards, and they I could have relapse (based on other's experiences), but your steps have fixed the phone at least for now.

Based on my indications (same as others, standby=usage! rapid battery drain without use, etc) and your solution, I chose to restore the phone with my last computer/iTunes backup. I had already done the factory refresh without success. I knew this would risk dragging the problem back in, but if AM's solution was right, it would not.

For background, my e-mail includes three accounts an MS Exchange Server that continuously receives/downloads email as it comes, a gmail account that I manually refresh, and a pallet email that I don't receive on, so my email profile is fairly taxing on the battery.

Then I applied AM's solution (re pasted below). I actually only did the first step since I do not have any extra keyboard shortcuts.

It seems I've found how to arrange this:

- Disable "Documents and data" fron iCloud settings.

- Delete all the keyboard shortcurts.

Restart the phone twice.

That was last night. Now, I am at 90% battery REMAINING, 1 hour two minutes usage and 11 hours, 12 minutes of standby!

This has all been with 7.0.4, cellular data turned on and LTE enabled, but the phone has been connected to wifi home network the entire time. Phase 2 testing will be later today when I am out and about without wifi. I will report back.

So, again, there is more to the underlying issue, but AM has offered an easy solution that got me my fully loaded phone back to working order.

Thanks,. I hope this is useful to some...
