Put a 2012 macbook pro 15 inch airport card in 2011 macbook pro

J0ce, can you confirm which LMP Version you now have after installing the 661-6510 chip? If knock is working I'm sure it's golden but I want to be sure before dropping the money. Check Apple Icon>About This Mac>More Info...>System Report>Bluetooth> LMP Version.

Thanks! I'm really hoping I can upgrade one chip as I have done with the HDD and RAM, staving off a system upgrade for another year. If this does work we should refute that guy on iFixit. More peopel should know this is an option.

It should work. Over on MacRumors there has been a big discussion board about it and one guy put up a screenshot of his Early 2011 MacBook pro with the card from a 2012 MBP and his Yosemite beta said that continuity and airdrop would work. 🙂 I ordered the part last night.

I realized the A1342 wouldn't work after I ordered 😟. Oh well, it was cheap. I evened things out by ordering the 661-6510 off ebay.

The important part when looking for the right bluetooth airport card is making sure it has the BCM20702 chip in it. That is the Bluetooth 4.0/Bluetooth LE chip.

Just installed the 661-6510 chip and I can't get it to recognize LMP Version 0x4, Bluetooth LE. Tried download the Knock desktop app and it gives me an unsupported system error. Any advice? I've already tried a PRAM and SMC reset.

Did you check to see that the part had the BCM20702 chip?? That is the Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth LE chip. The part number you listed can be found on multiple parta, some of which are still bluetooth 2.1
