Warning iOS 7.0.4 update bricked my iPhone.

It was plugged in and a pop-up appeared asking to update. I clicked OK and within 1 minute, it flashed a blue screen followed by the 'connect to iTunes' graphic. I'm attempting a recovery now through iTunes and iCloud.

I have 5 iPhones in my family (all are original iPhone 5). 3 of them updated to 7.0.4 without any problem but the remaining 2 had the same problems described here - i.e. the update failed and the phones were placed into Recovery Mode. It took me a couple of tries to restore them from a backup in iTunes. I rebooted the phones and the laptop I had them attached to (a couple of times) and eventually I was able to restore and update them.

Jonathan, do you work for Apple? How do you know it is a "small percentage of users" who experience this problem? Firmware breaking an otherwise 100% functioning phone is definitely something requiring a fix. It is pretty disgusting that Apple will not even respond to this problem other than posting a "solution" that does not work for any one I have seen posting on the support discussions. Mine goes up and down but mostly down. After going to the Apple store it hasn't come back up. I installed iOS 7.01 right when it was released. Two weeks later my 1 year warranty expired. During those two weeks my wifi was out but I tried to find a solution on my own through Apple (nada), the support communities, YouTube, etc. etc. I tried all the so-called fixes. Now I am over my warranty and Apple says I have to buy a new (refurbished) phone since mine has a "hardware" fault. If I had known I had a hardware faulty right after I installed iOS 7.01 I would have been able to get a new phone without all this crap. Apple has screwed this up big time. Posts like yours are not helpful. If you have a solution or any other helpful tidbits to contribute then please do. I guarantee you would not be so smug if it was happening to you.
