iphoto not working after a Mavericks update. Any suggestions?

I have just updated to Mavericks and iphoto has a line through the App saying it is the wrong version.

I then updated the App for iphoto via the App store and it still won't work. Any ideas? I also downloaded the latest ilife from the App store too.

Pretty cheesed off. Any suggestions please?

iMac, iOS 5.1.1, I am using 5.5.7 version of safari.

Am having problems also with iPhoto. Upgraded to Mavericks, upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 as requested. It did read my album initially but now it says it needs to upgrade the album and when I tell it to do so it exits itself and nothing happens. If I go to where my iPhoto library file is it is greyed out. Same with my backup.

I have gone the route of deleting the app and reinstalling. Got it to open and to import the library. It imported the library (stored on an external drive) and placed it on my internal drive but all the photos are out of order, not in their folders etc. There are 16,000 of them so some task to put right.

If I go back to the original version it is greyed out and iPhoto will not open it.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks.

Richard.

Next, try this:

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

  • Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
  • Click on the Add Library button,

    User uploaded file

and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.

  • Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option

  • User uploaded file

  • In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
  • Click on the Create button.

  • Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.

Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Have probably already done this a different way. I plugged in my iPhone! it picked up the pictures from it, saved them to a new album on the hard drive, can read them/open OK but the original album it will not open.

As mentioned earlier by asking it to import from the original folder it did but imported all 16,000, mostly individually although some remained together but in unnamed folders. I am beginning to think I will have to pour myself a beer, sit down and spend a few hours reorganising all the photos.

I am experiencing similar problems with this. I click on the update, it says: "These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID; these apps were already assigned to another Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications."

Click OK: "Update unavailable with this Apple ID; This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

Click OK: "We could not complete your request; there was an error in the App store. Please try again later."

This isn't true, my mac and Apple ID have never been associated with any other Apple ID or Mac. What's going on here? Why isn't it recognising my own Apple ID purchases?

    Help please!

My only solution as nothing suggested worked was to start again. I opened up a fresh copy of iPhoto and imported what was the existing library of 16,000+ pictures. It refused to recognise them in the original order or under the event names attached but imported them all as numbered files. The numbers are in fact the date, or range of close dates, and thankfully in most cases it has kept some groupings together because the date was similar, or rather the range of dates was similar. I have had to start opening up every event, seeing what it is, renaming it, dividing it up where the wrong pictures are in the event folder. Am about a third of the way through it! I suppose it has given me an opportunity to delete a lot of old stuff.

I have no idea what caused other than knowing that after the last upgrade to iPhoto I could no longer open up my original library.
