can't sign in to facebook on my ipad, error message 'enter the Facebook password for "" in Settings.'

I have been trying to log into Facebook on my ipad but keep getting the message

'Enter the Facebook password for "" in Settings.'

which then gives me two options: Settings & Cancel.

When I press Cancel nothing happens [I was hoping to enter my email and password]

Settings takes me to the setting control which then askes the same question. Click cancel nothing, click settings keeps me on the settings page!

once there It asks me to re-enter my password - but I get the message:

'Error Signing In

Could not communicate with the server.'

I tried all my passwords but to no avail.

I have tried resetting, rebooting, deleting but nothing changes. I suspect the account name [although the same as mine] is not actually mine. There is another one of me out there aparently.

So there is not a chance on this planet to get her password just so I can deleter her off my ipad!!!

How can I reset this without loosing all my stuff. [If I save to the cloud and restore from the cloud - the same thing happens]

Please any idea what I can do?

iPad 2, iOS 7.0.4

I did find this which allowed me to log into Facebook but it just means my privacy settings are not ideal. when I turn it back on the pop-ip arrived back on my screen.

Go into settings/privacy/Facebook and disable the button.

Open your Facebook app and login.

Once logged in go back to that button and enable.

You may have to re-enter your password but the error will be gone.

I have the same problem but it will not accept my password in the settings for facebook. No matter what I do. For me and others who have this problem there have been offered NO SOLUTIONS from Apple or Facebook programmers. I believe this means there is NO solution and that you have to reformat your entire iPad to its orriginal out of box state and NOT us your backup-restore when upgrading to a new iPad because in that case (which is what I have done) it will migrate the problem. THEY HAVE NO ANSWER. Or is there some genius out there who does?

I'm going nuts with the same problem. New iPad. I can use FB just fine, but even when I'm not using FB, sometimes when I'm trying to purchase from Apps store, or iTunes, I get "enter Facebook password for "" in Settings, get directed to the Facebook settings page, "there was a problem accessing your account" I enter my password, "Error signing in, could not communicate with server". Okay. And then I have to click off my iPad. This problem only exists with my iPad, not my iPhone or Macbook.

Same issue for me, recently I started having issues with apps no longer being able to access my Facebook account. But the iPad Facebook account settings will not accept my password, even though the Facebook app and Safari can access my account fine. The only significant events I recall that have occurred that may have triggered this have been that via my Facebook account I killed off a lot of so called authorised connections and I changed my user name, but still have the same email address and password.

I have tried just about every solution put forward on the net, short of a factory restore, back to new, on my iPad.

I have also; deleted my iCloud account, deleted the Facebook app and account, deleted Safari data.

One would think that after I have deleted my account from the iPad that it would ask for both username/email address and password, but it only asks for password, so the username is still stored somewhere that I am unable to delete.

I also see that no one seems to have been able to get an answer from Apple. So I'm guessing they have absolutely no idea themselves.

I am hesitant to put my username on Facebook back to what it was as Facebook only give you a few chances to change your username, then you are locked.

I have iOS 7.1.1 installed.

I did have a lot of respect for Apple and their devices as they just worked, but they are becoming tarnished by ignoring what seems to be a growing issue.

I am having the same issue. I think the problem might be that either IOS 7.x or Facebook, or both doesn't like it when you try to have two facebook accounts on your IPad. I have an IPad Air, btw. I even went so far to reset the entire IPad back to factory settings, then set it up as a new IPad, and finally after getting Facebook working I did a restore from my backup so I could have my apps and saved games. Guess what, the "" came back. Whose idea was it to not allow us to remove all of the settings from memory from programs we uninstall? I have uninstalled Facebook so many times that is stinks. I am buying my IPad on a payment plan from T-Mobile and I may have to return it. I don't want a piece of equipment that can't behave.

No need to Reset.

this worked for me too: (forget who posted but HUGE THANKS!

I put the password in Settings, but didn't press return, I then went to Privacy in settings and changed the Facebook setting to off, where it says applications that have requested etc etc, then back to the FB icon, where it let me sign in properly!! Why this worked god knows, but it did!

I have been struggling with this error message since it first appeared on my iPhone many, many moons ago. I have tried to fix a few times but gave up trying.

I tried my Facebook password like it requested and got the "..could not communicate with server error message" like everyone else. Today it showed up again and I vowed to fix it once and for. In addition to my iPhone, I have an IPad 4. I have never seen the message appear on my Ipad. In my iPad I went into settings, Facebook, and lo and behold i saw my name right below settings. I clicked my name and it said:

Full Name XXXXX XXXXX (my first and last name)

User Name XXXX.XXXXX.33 (<<<--- this is the key to the whole mess. Firstname dot lastname dot 33)

Password ooooooooooo (this is your facebook login password)

I stared at the User Name in amazement. This is probably what the facebook setting was needing, but it was only asking for password. So here is what I did:

I hit Delete Account and it then it asked for those three pieces of information. So I entered in my iPhone what was on my Ipad 4 and it cleared everything up. Now I was lucky I had another apple device with my User Name already inputted. Where would I have found out that crucial piece of information if I had not had another apple device? It is part of your Facebook login web address. Another place you can find it is: Log into facebook account, go to About and look for your contact info, it will be something like this: bill.smith.22@facebook.com bill.smith.22 is your User Name

So basically your Facebook has three names attached to it: #1 your name = Bill Smith #2 User Name = bill.smith.22 #3 email or phone that you put in your web browser with your password to log in to facebook. Confused? So was I. I hope my instructions weren't confusing.

Thank you Scotty - I just got a new to me - used iPhone 4s and I have had a HORRIBLE time trying to figure this out- I have tried all the settings adjusted and everything! I followed your "I hit Delete Account and it then it asked for those three pieces of information."
For me I hit delete and it asked if I wanted to merge contacts before deleting - and I said yes - It is "merging contacts" and I will follow the rest of your suggestions! SO far it has rid my phone of the pesky Facebook settings "". error!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!
