When I start up iMac, Chrome automatically opens. How do I make it stop?

Very easy solution.

- On your dock, right-click the Google Chrome icon.

- Under "options" make sure that "Open at login" is unchecked

This (above) should also be performed in addition to un-checking the start-up items under System Preferences>Users>...etc...

It doesn't work. Had tried all those things even trashing the app and when I reboot it comes back. Talking about Google music now. I need Chrome but even though I got rid of Google music it always comes back at log in. Annoying.

System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Clik on (Your Login ID: left column) -> Click on (Login Items: right column) -> Select "Google Chrome" if exists -> Click on "-" button. Simply unchecking "hide button" does not work. Press "-" button to remove the item.

I could not locate the 'fix' in system preferences, BUT, when I clicked on the dock icon, found options. Open on startup was checked as an option so I deselected it and that solved the problem.

Hi, I don't what the name is of my current operating system, but it is version OSX version 10.9.5. And the suggestion to go to 'accounts' is incorrect. You have to go 'users and groups' and go to login items. There you can uncheck google chrome on the list of items that open automatically on log in.

I found it very irritating, it would consume all resources by automatically starting chrome. So this should turn it off until you want it. Cheers

10.9.x is called Mavericks, & Accounts was changed to Users & Groups in 10.6 I believe. 🙂

Check the 'chrome' box, yes, CHECK it, THEN go to the bottom of that window and click the 'minus' sign that's right next to the 'plus' sign. The chrome item will disappear. Re-start your computer. Gone :-)
