In this case, thinking that the incorrect voltage would always work just fine was your bad decision. You're just lucky you didn't burn down a building and jeopardize the lives and property of yourself and others.
Fear not, you are not alone. Each day, there are hundreds of thousands of bad decisions made with Apple products. Such decisions number in the millions when you include all of the people and products that there are in the world. Manufacturers and their warranties are not in the business of copensating for bad decisions made by users. That's what life and property insurance is for.
