Magic Mouse not working properly

My magic mouse started acting jittery and locking up intermittently. I would have to restart to get it to work again. Changed batteries, same result. Finally bought new magic mouse which acts jittery also. Not as bad as first but not acceptable. Has not locked up yet (one day). Tried moving tracking to fast and removed all other peripherals from bluetooth. Have scoured the communities but cannot find any solution. Looking for any help.

Thanks. I should mention that I was using a standard mousepad, that was actually fabric based (like a very short rug). Unfortunately, the surface of the desk is also unfriendly in that it's as you mentioned: very reflective and shiny. I should also note that the arc mouse performance does not appear to suffer under the same surfaces. I solved my issues using a piece of graph paper as a mouse pad for now ;-)

So i had this problem, tried out the stuffing paper into the battery slots, restarting the wifi, changing new batteries - apparently all didn't work until i tried the glossy surface, WORKS WONDER. and seriously, what is the problem that caused that? it had been on my desk since 2 years ago (laminated desk) and wasn't giving me any problems until yesterday it went all jitterish. guess it's one of apple's tactic to make u change a new mouse eh?
