Trouble with icloud tabs between two ipads.

I'm having trouble with icloud tabs syncing between two ipads.

I restored my new air from a backup of my old mini, because I wanted the same apps and information shared between the two devices.

However, I believe doing so causes problems sharing safari tabs across both ipads and my iphone.

Now, only my iphone tabs can be seen from all the devices, whereas neither tabs from my air or mini can be seen by any device.

iPad, iOS 7.0.4

I had this problem with a iPhone 5S and a iPad Air. I solved this issue doing a complete restore to both equipments and configure like a new iPhone and like a new iPad.

Maybe I did things that are not necessary, but had tried many things and this is what solved my problem with iCloud Tabs.

This was the procedure that I did:

1- Go to Settings > iCloud and make sure that Safari is off in both equipments. Please make sure Safari stay desabilitado.

2- Disable Find My iPhone to both equipments.

2- Change the names to both equiment. Go to Settings > General > About

3- Restore both equipments

4- Configure like new equipments.

5- Now, after configure you Apple ID, active Safari in iCloud. (Go to Settings > iCloud) in to both equipments.

Now iCloud Tabs works fine.

Unfortunately I have to install all applications again, but your contacts and other things to sync with iCloud should appear again. Of course, they should be synchronized before.

Please, do a backup in iTunes before all this. If this procedure not work then you can use this backup and have your equipments exactly as they were before.

Have posted this elsewhere but thought I'd put it here as well.

When I got my iPad mini I used a backup of my iPad air to set it up last October and since then only one iPad has shown up under iCloud tabs on my iPhone or either Mac. Never has both iPads shown.

Last weekend I flatlined my mini and set it up from scratch as a new device and lo and behold both iPad air and iPad mini now appear in shared iCloud tabs along with my iPhone 5s and both my Macs.

So anecdotally it would seem to be an issue in setting up a device using the backup of another. Don't do it!

Also, I've been using iOS 8 and that didn't resolve the issue either - hence flatlining my mini last weekend.

Thanks for this. I've been wondering why icloud tabs would only work with one device at a time, and they wouldn't see each other.

While troubleshooting, the iPhone tabs would appear fine on the mac, but disappear as soon as I turned on tabs on the iPad, only to be replaced by the iPad's tabs. And vice versa. I did restore the iPad from an iPhone backup, so I guess the mac now sees them both as the same device...

Still a bug in my opinion, but at least I'll stop trying to fix it.

Hi Everyone,

i have the similar problem. I cant see the safari icloud shared tabs across ipad mini and iPad air.

I have tried asking an Apple staff via AppleCare chat, the staff asked me to try so many steps but he gave up at the end, abruptly ended the chat session. Tim Cook said customer satisfaction on iPad was 100% - I don't think that will be true anymore. I'm certainly not happy with that recent experience.

Does apple staff read this forum? How can we ask them to fix this issue?

Solution

Do this on one of the devices that have problems with publishing its iCloud Safari tabs:

1. Go to "Settings -> General -> About" and make sure you are running IOS 8.1.2 or newer.

2. Go to "Settings -> iCloud -> Backup -> Back Up Now" and wait until the backup is complete.

3. Go to "Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings"

4. When installation starts again you go through the usual WIFI and iCloud account setup. Then choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and select the backup you just made so that the device restores itself.

This should fix the problem and still maintain most of your apps and settings.

My take on it:

I experienced the problem after restoring a backup from an iPad 3 to my newly acquired iPad Air in December 2013. My guess was that somehow an ID/key had been copied from the iPad 3 to the iPad Air during the backup/restore process - and that this ID now was identical on both devices - causing them to wipe each other’s iCloud Safari tab publications. I reported the problem to Apple Care. Although I never heard back from them on this and never got a definitive answer - it still seems that they now have fixed the bug. I think that this magic ID/key is now regenerated each time you do a restore. So if you run a backup + restore on the same device a new unique ID/key is issued.
