My iPad Air will at random restart itself! Anyone else understand or know why this is?

My iPad Air will at random restart itself! It doesn't matter what your doing or what App your using, it just stops, shows the apple logo, and returns to the lock screen. It's happened about 6 times in one week. Anyone else understand or know why this is? Is this a hardware or a software issue? I am considering exchanging it for a new one, but if this is a general software meets hardware issue or is consistent with all iPad Airs then I may just keep the one I have, contingent Apple has an update to correct the issue. I am not sure what to do. I love the iPad, but can't keep one that reboots itself at random. Anybody experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!!!

iPad, iOS 7.0.4

I have the same problem. It restarts itself at least once a day, sometimes quite a bit more frequent. Like you it seems to happen randomly to me, there's not one thing that triggers it. I've never had this problem with my iPhone.

It's not too late for a refund or exchange, but I want to keep it, so long as the issue is fixable. I talked to another Apple Rep today. He stated that this is the first he's hearing about it and upon a little research and inquiries on his side, that the issue isn't broad, but more a select few. Why this is happening is unknown. They had me perform a full recovery and set the iPad up as a NEW iPad instead of restore the previous settings. The enormous downside is that you have to download all your apps again, sign in all your accounts, adjust your settings to your liking, etc. If it corrects the issue, it's worth it. We'll see if it works.

Okay everyone, the corrective action to fixing your iPad Air from randomly restarting for new apparent reason may have been found. I performed a system recovery and restore via iTunes on my iMac and so far (fingers crossed) it's been four days of constant use with not a single restart, glitch, crashing of apps, etc. My iPad has been working flawlessly.

You must have iTunes on a MAC or PC to make this work. The downside is that you'll need to "set up the iPad as a NEW device". Do not restore your previous account. Set up as a new device, and then you'll need to download all your apps on the NEW iPad manually through the aap store, purchases. Music as well. Be sure to save any photos, videos, documents, etc to your computers hard rive before you perform a recovery/restore. You can also save most of these items on iCloud.

To perform a recovery/restore on your device, do the following:

Good luck!!!

It's official (as if it wasn't before) this issue is a result of hardware deficiency, or the latest apple iOS devices only having 1GB of RAM on the A7 64 bit processor. The new processor consumes 30% more RAM than the 32 bit processor of previous iOS devices. This deficiency of RAM causes low memory crashes and soft reboots.

I am on my 3rd iPad Air. Each has performed a soft reboot in the first day of use, and continues to perform them a myriad of times throughout the week. Beyond frustrating. You pay hundreds of dollars for something that doesn't work. Apple, what an unnecessary and gracious error. It's not like you. Steve Jobs passing has caused the company to decline. It would have cost them little to upgrade the RAM to the necessary 2-4GB. Apple profits hundreds of dollars on each device sold. iOS Devices in 2014 will likely have this necessary upgrade as a "perk" that will be just another much overdue feature.

I have lost my good faith in Apple. They have lost their edge. They are no longer the innovative leader in electronics.

Alright, here is my 2 cents:

I've never been an Apple Fanboy, but since I bought my first iPad (2), I can't live without it anymore ;-)

Said iPad2 was absolutely without problems, be it hardware or software. I just loved it and finally "got" why Apple has its followers.

The next one was a 3rd Gen. and sometimes "strange things" happened using the AppStore. Not too bad, just found workarounds and carried on. But I started thinking ... how hard can it be to make things work properly in a closed system?

But only since I bought my iPad Air (LTE/128GB), the problems really started.
I have the very same resets that are discussed in this thread. I tried setting up as new and other stuff mentioned here before and nothing did help.

The Appstore has a LOT of issues now. For instance, if I d/l an App and close the AppStore without closing the App's window first, it will become "un-closeable" the next time I start AppStore. Only killing the App and restarting it fixes this until the next time.

Overall, iOS7 is a great example of BAD BAD BAD DESIGN in almost every way !!

Johnny Ive, either you are getting old and tired or you never were the glorified designer you were supposed to be. There are SO many flaws, technical and regarding usability, a Kindergardener could not have done a worse job.

As for the reset-issue at hand, It happens to me about every other day. And so I just "live with it".
I have no confidence whatsoever that Apple would move a finger to solve this.

They seem awfully self-pleased and don't seem to even recognize that there ARE problems ...

Edit: Just wanted to make clear, that I never tampered with any device in any way. No Jailbraking or stuff, all 100% ledgit.
