iPod Sport Kit Volume levels

I've read the instructions a couple of times and gone through the Nano settings and can't seem to find out how to adjust the Spoken Feedback voice levels. When running I listen to music through Shure sound isolating earphones. At a reasonable sound level (med-hi) when the Feedback occurs, it's super loud. It's so jarring, that I'd consider returning it, if it's not adjustable.
Is this voice level at a standard level or can it be adjusted?

I just started having this problem too. I got my sports kit four weeks ago, and hadn't had a problem with volume levels until today. As far as I know I didn't do anything differently on today's run to trigger this. I know that the volume of the voice is accurate to the level at which I have the volume set, but the music now requires to be at a much higher level than usual, thus making the voice very loud.

Just wanted to add that I had the very same problem. The volume levels were extremely low when running and I to experienced the booming voice of the Nike+ lady.

It does occur to me that I was messing around with settings or something when she was talking. So it could very well be that the volume remains low if you do something when the Nike+ voice interrupts the music and lowers it.

A bug fix to the iPod Nike+ software is needed. Please apple we need an update. Thanks 🙂

This volume issue has been an annoying problem for me as well.

It was working fine for me for the first couple of runs. Then something must have happened because next time out it felt like the voice coach was screaming in my ear. I was ready to turn around and knock someone out. Now I keep the volume down to the point were I can barely here my music and I still find the voice coach loud. Sometimes I'll forget to turn down the audio from my normal listening levels and get a real ear shocker when starting my run.

I think it's a bug that needs to be dealt with. I'd like to see a seperate audio control for the voice coach. I haven't tried the reset yet bit I'll give it a go, see if it improves the audio levels.

So has there been a resolution for this? I first noticed the problem in the car, trying to use a cassette adapter for my car stereo. I had to have the car stereo on full blast just to barely hear the music from the iPod. I then notice that I had to have the volume on the iPod at 75% just to barely hear music on the earphones. I then had the pleasurable experience of trying to run with the Nike adapter, with the booming lady's voice in my ear.
I believe that the problem is somehow associated with the volume limiting functionality that was in the latest update. While I don't have a limit or password, it seems as though the Nano adjusts the maximum level by itself.
I'm a long time Windows user who was considering switching, but this crappy, buggy software, that has not been addressed by Apple, has made me reconsider my decision. I'm going to call Apple and if this is not resolved the iPod is going back to Costco. What a piece of crap.

I just called Apple Support and spoke with "Yogila" in India. After spending 10 minutes providing basic information (serial number, etc) and repeating everything 3 times, she advised doing a total restore (not simply holding down buttons on the iPod, but using the computer to reinstall the software). This appears to have worked, since I can now hear sound while the volume bar is less than 50%, which I could not do before. At the high end, it once again is very loud. I'm going to go for a run in a bit, so I'll know if this worked or not. It's a hassle, so if I have to do this every time my Nano is going back to Costco.

Having same problem here with the volume. In fact, I just got a new Nano, and both the new one and previous Nano have the same problem...can barely hear the music.
So - based on your helpful posts I'm going to restore, but just want to check that I'm understanding you folks correctly. Do I go to the iPod update software and selet Restore, therefore erasing everything on my iPod? I'm very willing to do this if it fixes the problem, but just wanted to check before doing so.
Thanks for these posts - very helpful!
