My iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 8.1 laptop or my Windows 7 PC.

I have been going through the forums for the last few weeks and nothing has helped. Both computers are x64 bit.

Problems I am experiencing

A. Windows 7 PC has not synced photo stream since September 25

B. Windows 8.1 laptop has not synced since a little before that.

C. I can't upload any photos (.jpegs) to the photo stream. An error pops up saying that they cann't be uploaded as they are not in a format supported by iCloud, even though they are jpegs.

D. Photos are syncing ti my ipad 3 perfectly fine, so clearly there is a problem with my computers but I am totally stumped.

  1. I have un-installed, deleted all icloud photo stream folders, restarted and then re-installed the iCloud control panel on both computers, and it has created new folders and re-synced maybe 30 photos before it stopped again.
  2. I have uninstalled every single Apple program on my Windows 8.1 laptop and reinstalled iTunes, iCloud and Quicktime and that didn't help.
  3. I have toggled the Photo Stream on/off button in setting on my iphone, and that seemed to kick start the sync on my Windows 7 PC this morning, so far I've got 70 photos on my Windows 7 PC and that's where it has stopped but its a really random selection, and doesn't include the photos I took yesterday or today.
  4. Two of my colleagues at work where my Windows 7 PC is located - their photo streams are working fine, both using ios7 and icloud control panel, however their computers are x32 bit.
  5. I have also simply logged out and signed in again multiple times, however that doesn't do anything.
  6. I have unticked the "read-Only" permissions on my photo icloud stream folder, but that didn't help either.
  7. I have followed the troubleshooting from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989 - however that also did not help.
  8. I have tried changing the folder path for iCloud photo stream, however that did not help either.
  9. I tried the steps from someone who said they spoke to an Apple rep (steps copied from forum and I put them in italic) on this forum: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5381738
    1. Anyway, the Apple rep had me sign out of iCloud CC on my PC.

    2. Then on each iOS devices Settings/iCloud/Delete Account.

    3. Confirmed all the warnings.

    4. Then re-entered my iCloud id and password on the iOS device.

    5. Things restarted and the iOS Photo Streams got loaded with the number of photos that

    6. iCloud has.

    7. Signed in on iCloud on the PC. It synced the same way.

    8. Tried taking pictures on the iPhone and iPad. They synced everywhere.

    9. So I'm back in business.

    10. I just deleted everything on my iOS devices when I exited iCloud.

    11. My interest is the PC syncing when I take a photo on my iPhone.

    12. ME: Okay so these steps again refreshed the photostream on my iPhone 5. I can see that the photos I took yesterday and today have been uploaded to the photo stream as I can see them there on my device. I have also now signed back into iCloud on my Windows 7 PC and it is slowly syncing again, but just recognising the same photos it downloaded previously as per Step 3 which I did just earlier this morning.

  10. I have also just tried uploading photos via the upload folder from my windows 7 PC, and they uploaded perfectly.

This is really, really frustrating. I've tried everything I can find on these forums but nothing has helped fix the issue 100%.

Can anyone offer something else I can try to reslove this issue?

I have the same issue here. Have been searching for answers for a week. Photo's that load up are just random and stops at 25-40 pics, no more after that. Apple are refusing to take this as a real issue and investigate. It is a known issue with users.

I am seriously looking at packing up my apple goods and moving on. Without the photostream to PC option I could go with any product.

One of the folks said it was a "cleanup" issue and that he was able to solve it with:

"After a couple more sets of un-install re-install all Apple programs, I used an app called "Autoruns" which identified left overs from a trial "Tune-Up" program I had used with my previous iTunes before the upgrade. After I deleted these registry entries, and rebooted..............iTunes installed, updated twice, and ran fine. Someone at Apple needs to get on the problems with updates if they are going to keep iTunes as a working model to configure its products! I lost 3 days of productivity and over 10 hours of configuring their product to run on Window7 64bit,"

Glad that you found a source for the file -- I didn't know Apple was offering the older versions for download -- and were able to roll back to a working environment.

I've seen several folks say they couldn't get the 2.x version to install because it kept saying that it was for Vista only. Perhaps your comment that all they need to do is set the .msi file's properties/compatibility mode to "Previous Version" and it will install correctly will help those folks if they're still watching this thread.

Also, maybe you could add the link to the 2.x download page to your post in order to make it easier for folks to go get it.

I don't have the wherewithall to set up or host a download site. If Apple stops offering the 2.x version for download then I'd be happy to send the installation file to someone who might want to do it.

Howard

Howard,

Thanks for dedicating so much time to helping out others with this dreadful issue. I only went off of what others in the thread were saying worked for them. For reference here's what I did (I'm on Windows 8.1 but this should most likely work for win8 or win7 too):

1. Log out of your account in iCloud control panel 3.x and uninstall it.

2. Go here for the Apple support page on iCloud 2.1.3 "for Windows Vista": http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1687

a. Get the setup file, iCloudSetup.exe, from the download button, or just click here for the direct download link: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1687/en_US/iCloudSetup.exe

3. Open up the setup file's properties and change compatibility settings for Windows 7.

a. If you don't do this, the installer will detect that you are on a later version of windows and quit. If you are actually on win7 and still get this message try settings compatibility mode for Windows Vista.

4. That's it, you should be able to finish installing as normal. It asked me to reboot so I did, then logged into iCloud and everything worked like it used to.

Should the official download fail for whatever reason, here's a mirror: https://mega.co.nz/#!05pgWJrC!W74imBH-7OH1E5FxcStSR--OLimOs8FUVNjG7gUubgk

I cant believe the best fix is to downgrade. I have unfortunately went through uninstalling and reinstalling the entire control panel. I also deleted the whole folder so when it reinstalled it would rebuild the entire photostream. Just an utter dissapointment all around. First of all it only downloaded 300 of the 1000 pictures that are in my photostream. The shared photostreams are all there and its even easy to save a picture to a shared photostream by right clicking on the picture and selecting upload to shared photostream. But where is this option for uploading to your regular photostream? No matter what, I cannot get a picture from my computer to reliably and quickly upload into my photostream even when copy and pasting into thier upload folder. I can get it into a shared photostream no problem and the photostream folder does get all of my new pictures that I take (minus the 700 it just decided not to sync).

I didnt realize this was an issue until now because I was trying to upload a pic from my computer to my phone QUICKLY, but if its been going on since september, that is a little ridiculous. I expect more from apple and for them to stop being windows snobs. We all have mixed devices and I am happy apple even extended an olive branch for us to have photostream, but all its doing is syncing pictures. Dropbox seems to just be incredibly more reliable and easy to use. I would think the icloud control panel would man up and include a mail program and a calendar viewer but all it has is links to Internet Explorer windows of icloud? Total joke. No ammount of crippling your softwares functionality on windows is ever going to make me buy a steaming pile of mac computer, but having your phone, tablet and cloud is worth it. Can I please get an interface for my desktop that is worth my time and FULLY just works upon One Single Sign on?

My iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 8.1 laptop or my Windows 7 PC.
