Reapplying the Thermal Grease

Hi, I have intentions of reapplying my thermal grease from the Apple grease to something more substantial like Artic Silver 5.

I have a complete copy of the Service Manual, and all the tools needed. It seems fairly straight forward, but I was wondering if anyone has done it yet; and if you have, any things to watch out for.

Does that foam material that is attached to the fan really rip as easy as the manual says, and if so, where can I pick up something similar. I've worked as a tech for quite some time, and have made many changes and mods to my PB 1.33, so I'm confident in my abilities; just looking for a heads-up on anything I might need to know that can only be found out by doing it.

Well, I have to say that this thread didn't make my decision any easier. Some people say it helped, some people say it didn't. Then you wonder if the people that say it didn't did it right, or if the people that say it did, did it worng i.e. not connecting something right.

In my experience, most people don't know what they're doing, or if they do, it's usually just enough to be dangerous. And this is coming from someone that worked as a field Tech in 3 different countries for several years.

I guess it just comes down to the fact of if I thikn it will help, and do I risk my warranty in the case of a faulty logic board? I have to say that's the first time I heard about the logic boards crapping out. Mine was made in week 26, so it's one of the later models.

From what I've seen, people usually just get lemons in general. So far mine is running just fine. I just slapped 2GBs of ram in there last night. And tonight I put in a new 100GB @ 7200rpm drive. I guess I'll just see what happens next
