My Iphone5 has a black screen and won't turn on

So after school one day i took my phone out of my pocket and the screen was black, i was pressing the on and off button for the sound and i could hear the noises, so i decided to restart my phone. After waiting for ten minutes i keep on pressing the restart button and it still would not turn on. Once i got home i plugged my phone into the charger thinking that it might turn on. However it just kept on making the noise as if i was pluging and unplugging the charger repeatedly. I keep on restarting the phone and it still has not turned on. It has been two days and the phone has still not turned on. When i plugged my phone into the the computer thinking i could reset my phone into facotry settings, itunes could not recognized my serial number. Now after not charging it for a day it will not charge at all

If you can't update or restore your iOS device

You can use recovery mode if you can't update or restore your iOS device.

You might need to use recovery mode if:

  • You can't update or restore because iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's "in recovery mode".
  • The Apple logo remains onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
  • The Connect to iTunes screen appears.

See what to do if the progress bar remains onscreen for several minutes

Use recovery mode

Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.

  1. Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
  2. Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
  3. Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
  4. When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.

I had a similar issue with iphone 5.

Screen went black, non responsive, could not do hard restart, plus phone felt warm to the touch.

When plugged to USB cable to PC, phone would ping every 3 seconds.

I could not get it to enter recovery mode.

icloud.com could locate the phone and my car linked to its bluetooth...however I could not make or receive calls using car audio.

It's like the phone was partially functional, but in a runaway CPU-hungry state.

I tried and succeeded erasing it via icloud. After erasing, iTunes did recognize the phone upon connecting to USB cable (screen still black) and prompted to do a restore. However, the restore could never be completed due to an unknown error.

Eventually, I decided to allow the phone to drain its own batteries. After like 45 mins unplugged, it was no longer warm.

When I plugged back to USB, I got the screen to show the charging icon. Eventually the phone got enough charge to boot up. I was able to successfully restore from backup via iTunes.

It's July 2016 and my iPhone screen went black, no incoming calls, no text, no anything... just black. I had used it earlier in the day and I know it was charged. So I saw the same problem described with the solution to hold down the power button 3 seconds, then continue to hold down the lower screen button for another ten. Voila! after a few more seconds the Applie icon appeared and a little after that I was in business as if nothing had ever been amiss. Love the internet for problem solutions!

Maybe there are different issues... but the black screen/no response problem on my iPhone 4 was resolved without any interface to iTunes or using cloud or a different computer. What worked for me was what I wrote earlier..."hold down the power button 3 seconds, then continue to hold down the lower screen button for another ten. Voila! after a few more seconds the Apple icon appeared and a little after that I was in business as if nothing had ever been amiss"
