whats best way to import mpg in to iPhoto

i can open the files in quicktime but i want to import in to iphoto so that i can organise with the rest of my events. I've also tried converting to mov but for some reason the file quality is made significantly worse during conversion (i've tried both smart converter and also flv crunch). Any ideas? thanks vm

Is the problem, that iPhoto does not import the videos or does it not play them?

If iPhoto imports them, but does not play them, install Perian: Perian and Quicktime 7.

i thought you had used and therefore recommended this app? i've found a bunch of converters and had no problem when converting mts files to mov. the problem lies with mpg files from what i've seen, its always anightmare to keep the quality and convert them over. What a head ache. I won't say it but i almost wish i kept my pc...

maybe a silly question but how do i know this is safe?

How do I know what is safe?

If you mean the software you are trying to install, then only you can determine that for yourself if it is unsigned. Even then, I'm not sure how safe it really is.

If you mean right-clicking and choosing Open, then install, that is again for you to decide. However, using that method, as opposed to setting the preferences to allow software from anywhere all the time, is certainly more safe. By leaving the preferneces set to one of the other two settings, rogue software cannot install itself. If you disable the Gatekeeper protection, and fail to re-enable it, you stand a slight risk of rogue software being able to install itself. The method I suggested does not disable the settings. It just allows you to install the software which you have determined to be safe, although it isn't signed.
