Software Update install hangs in 10.9.1

Hi,

Unfortunately, after running software update, the 10.9.1 install is stuck, showing "less than a minute" for more than one hour...

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions of what to do next? I don't want to power it off during update install...

Many thanks!

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. It is restarting, I'm waiting about an half hour... not sure if i should just make a reset or just waiting. I Have a MackBook Air 13´´mid 2013 i7 8GB Ram.

-----

Back again... I just made the reset 😟

It has restarted normally and in the updates from app store it is telling me that the update is installed... I hope so

All the best

I am of the opinion that Mavericks simply cannot be updgraded from Lion 10.7.5. I have tried everything related to this issue in every post I could find - to no avail. Really poor form from Apple. Are they seeing the frustration in these posts from their loyal customers and just choosing to ignore them? They must have a short memory. This is why Microsoft was deemed uncool and why everyone left them for Apple. Now that Apple is top of the pops, it seems they're doing the same thing.

To Apple - would it not be a good service to your many customers who are really battling with this issue to simply issue a patch to fix this? Think of what may happen if you continue to ignore us; we can't upgrade to Mavericks, all our software eventually becomes unstable and unusable and we are forced to choose another operating system. By then I'm sure Google or some other major player will be keen to takeover your disgruntled customers and offer a nice usable, friendly replacement to Apple Macs. So enjoy your market leading position while you can Apple. Your days at the top may be numbered now.

Of course, if there's some simple fix available from anyone who upgraded from Lion 10.7.5 to Mavericks has managed to achieve - please do post it here for us all to read. But if it doesn't come from Apple, then the above rant sticks.

The download / update to 10.9.1 stalled on my 27" 2013 iMac. I force shut down the machine by holding the power button down and then restarted. It came back up and finished the download and install normally.

Have been running 10.9.1 for a couple of hours now, best I can tell everything works just fine. So no apparent impact from the force quit.

Mine initiated the "Restart" but could not complete it. It just hung at the desktop picture - no menu bar, no icons, no dock.

I finally had to press and hold the power button and that worked. I was given a dialog box giving me the choice of shutting down, restarting or cancelling (no idea what that would do!) I chose to restart and it continued to the grey screen and the installation of the new software, then a proper reboot. Everything seems normal and reports the system as OS X 10.9.1 with four updated applications (Safari, QuickTime Player, Mail and Calendar).

same problem here on a Mac Mini 2012, waiting for the last "About 5 seconds" for half an hour.

Never happened anything similar since I am using Macs (2010), I hope this is not a "feature" introduced by Mavericks as its has already brought a number of problems since I installed on my Macs.

Finally I decided to go for the "power button" solution and, so far, everything seems fine; anyways I would like to read some comments from Apple technicians on this matter.

Now its time to update a MacBook Air 2013...

Forced a reset and it restarted normally (phew!). However upgrade did not take place: still showing as 10.9.

Software Update is sitll shows Update available, but the interseting thing is that it also shows as having installed the 10.9.1 upgrade twice!

Will backup data and try again as suggested previously.

Hope this gets fixed soon

PS: upgrade to Maverics went smoothly and its a rMBP 15"

Thanks
