Removing an associated device or computer from an Apple ID

To remove a device or computer from your Apple ID:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
  3. Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
  4. From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
  5. Click the Remove button next to the device name you would like to unassociate.

Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90 day timer. The timer must complete 90 days from the day the device was associated before it can be associated to another Apple ID.

How did you delete it? Do you have to be logged out of your Apple ID on that device for 90 days or something? I logged out of my Apple ID on every setting but it won't let me click the Remove button.

So, this process is pretty straight forward. But, I have ten (10) devices in my acct (big family) and I recently upgraded my phone (6s Plus to 7 Plus). When I try to "manage" my devices, all 10 devices are greyed out including the iPhone I just swapped out under Apple's program. In short, I can't add my new phone, as well as manage the acct. I'm thinking the answer is to call into support, but I dread that...first world problems...I get it.

Hi there,

That 90 Days stuff is causing issues for business on IT, that have the need to re-deploy/Provision an iPad; from and Exiting End user, and when trying to Re-provision the device to another End user is joining, etc.

Unfortunately, after performing a "restore" to the device (iPad), still ask to contact the previous owner in order to activate the device to another EU.

Why 90 days? this is not really helping.

Thanks,

90 days is for a device being associated to an account (possibly an attempt to stop people logging into their account on other peoples devices/computers and sharing content, arguably it should be a longer period), resetting a device will not remove an association - you either have to wait until the 90 days have completed, or contact iTunes Support and see if they can/will remove the association.

For activation lock, contact the person whose account it's locked to, or if you have proof of ownership (e.g. original receipt with serial number) you could try contacting Apple
