MacBook Pro slow after version 10.9.1

Yesterday I installed version 10.9.1 and I my MacBook Pro is as slow as it could be. What should I do? Is anyone having this trouble?

Thank you!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Sorry, but I haven't been here lately...

All I know is that the process started to run when I opened one of the files that had been converted by Acrobat from PDF to Word format (docx), with an option that maintains its layout. I have been using my MB for other purposes, but I haven't had that problem again. I'll resume using those files again on January 7th, so, I htink I won't have any trouble till then. Well, it just occurred to me that I may hace started using the files before the update to 10.9.1 and I think I wasn't having problems then and that they started after the update. So, maybe the two facts are related: the files being converted and the update to 10.9.1. I'll add more coments when I resume using the files.

On the other hand, did you quit the process? You could try closing it and trying with the latest files you used, always taking a look at the Activity Monitor. When the computer gets slow again, you may be able to find out which file run the process.

A great new year to everyone!!!

Its not necessarily a problem for apple to fix. most are not having such problems. Either you have a corrupted install, or old software that is conflicting. The usual fixes. Tell us what 3rd party etc software you are running. Alos, open activity monitor and tellus th etop CPU % users when you are having these delays.

There's also aprogram called entrecheck that you cna run and it will provide a synopsis for folks here to read.

Claudia from Mexico,

I've been having the exact same problem as you - I have a Word file converted from Adobe Acrobat, and whenver I try to open or preview that file I get a "finder web content" process hogging all my memory.

For one thing, I read somewhere that disabling the "show preview column" in Finder might be a temporary solution. Trying it out now (Finder - View - Show View Options - uncheck "Show preview column")

Feb 4, 2014 8:36 PM in response to anduman

Hey, anduman!

I was starting to connect the preview column with the problem, because the system wasn't able to show no Word files preview in that column anymore, since the version update. So I followed your instructions and disabled the preview column. But, I still think it is some problem with the new version, some king of incompatibility (maybe with Office). Unfortunately, I need to return my work files in Office format, so I have no choice, but to keep using them.

I even thought to uninstall Office and, maybe, return to the latest version of the OS (if that's possible) and do the update the other way around (first the OS update, then, install Office again), even though this is the first time I have a problem with a version update. Also thought of buying some more RAM, but I think I still have a RAM large enough for the kind of work that I do.

To tell you the truth, I feel a little bit lost. I don't have the time I had when I used Windows which allowed me to do some research and find out things for myself and make me feel at ease with that system, so, after 3 years using Mac, I still fell like a rookie and I really don't know what to do. On the other hand, things have worked so well with Mac that this problem and its lack of solution really surprise me. Things like these were common with Windows, but I didn't expect to experience them with Mac.

Anyway, thank you for your advice. Let's see how the system reacts...

Regards, Cláudia

Hey again, anduman!

The system is working just fine!!! Memory pressure keeps like a tiny green stripe - instead of a wide yellow, or even red, one - and, naturally, all programs are as fast as they used to be! I still think this is a palliative measure, because everything - including the preview column - should be working fine, but it kind of solved my problem.

So, thank you very much for your help!!!

Regards,

Cláudia

Hi Claudia! The same thing is happening to me (it's clearly a problem that comes up when I try to preview certain Word files in Finder). I wondered if you had managed to reach a solution, or if eventually you reactivated the preview column and it worked again or it didn't.

I'm running Mavericks and thinking of updating to Yosemite mainly because of this. Thanks for your time!!
