Why does my FaceTime keep saying it's connecting, then fail?

I always FaceTime friends and family on my MacBook Pro, but recently it has been failing, both when sending and recieving calls. It says connecting, and then it fails; occasionally it says reconnecting and then fails after. I went to the Apple store recently, and all it needed was an update and it was working great. Less than a week later, it's back on that same routine.. HELP?!

p.s. I have checked for updates, and it is all updated.

Same thing here. I've been using Facetime without problems (mostly) for a few years. The sound would drop out for no reason from time to time but it basically worked. Now (since sometime in Dec 2013) I can not connect at all, "connection failed" everytime. It happens on my iPad, my MacPro (Mavericks) with a usb camera and a Macbook Pro (Mavericks). None of them work. I've had to go back to iMessages (or iChat) using AIM for video chat (which does work although not as clear as Facetime was).

I don't get it. Very frustrating.

P.S. I've used Macs since 1989. I like it when things just work!!!

Have you get your problem fixed? I started to have this issue since last week. I called Apple (1-800-275-2273) twice. Yesterday the guy told me to do a hard reset + disable facetime prior to that, after that , I can facetime with some friends who don't have this problem, but still not able to do it with those who have this terrible issue. We did hard reset at both ends. Guess what, no luck. I called them again this morning, a different guy told me to sign off/on facetime, and seems he doesn't know much about the issue. I'm so surprised that Apple doesn't have a solid solution so far.

I have a similar issue. I have tried Facetiming my wife and she has tried Facetiming me. I have tried hard resets and troubleshooting with no luck. I even did the new software update to iOS 7.1.1 which I thought might have a fix. It did not work. I have even tried disabling my WIFI to try over cellular data and that doesn't work. I have AT&T btw. I thought it maybe was my phone so I tried to use my MacBook Pro which has the latest version of software and that doesn't work either. Hopefully Apple fixes this issue. I am disappointed this has happend.

I'm also having the same problem. I tried to reset all settings in my ipad ang iphone but the issue is still there.

Here are my specs

iPhone4 IOS 7.1

iPad3 IOS 5.1.1

I have another iPhone 4 with the latest IOS and facetime is working on that device when I'm calling my brother who is here in the US too. I'm not sure if its because of the OS. Anybody had luck after upgrading the OS?

Why does my FaceTime keep saying it's connecting, then fail?
