Design fault? 27" 2013 iMac stand just gave up!

TIA, I got it repaired here in my Country (Colombia South America) It cost 50 dollars and took an hour to fix it and 4 days to have the part get here. Lets hope it works.

The design's been changed/part strengthened.

In Australia you can also get in-home service.

If anyone is looking for a quick temporary fix, I found an empty jumbo bottle of ibuprofen, in addition to the obvious function, is the correct diameter for holding the screen up.

Apple have already acknowledged this fault.

For starters, look at Krazmike at the top of page 37. Some of the other later posts have said similar.

Maybe try the approach I took and just ring Apple Support and complain and insit on getting it fixed for free. If you just take it into a Genius Bar they will most likely want to charge you.

Try contacting Apple and referencing the info JoPPt mentions in the 3rd post before yours. This has been referenced by others in this thread as an excellent way to cut through the red tape.

For anyone that cannot be bothered to go through Apple for the fix, their are broken hinge fixes for iMac on the popular online market that look like it could do a good job.

Just had the spring mount fail on my 2013 27" 3.4 iMac. I do have Applecare and would be really interested in hearing more from others with the issue, regarding the repair time. Like "translucent18", I too operate a small business (video), and this is my main editing machine. While it may be annoying for moderate use, the 8-15/hr edit sessions I have to do for work are brutal right now, as the screen is increadable dificult to view. That said, it really nees to be fixed, where a single day with out my machine is highly inconvenient, anything more than 3 days would be disastorous for my workflow. Any info or advise on fast-tracking a repair would be appreciated.

I strongly suggest getting the AppleCare Protection Program, since you have two days left before the year runs out. Once in hand, if you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you might be eligible for an onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine (depends on where you're located).

Since I often answer warranty questions, I read through this exchange and decided to check the hardware warranty (since that is what the first year is called; Apple Care (or: APP + Applecare Protection Plan) is what the additional, two year extended coverage is called and you are not covered by Applecare during the first year unless you purchased it) and found this interesting:

I am very sure that previous iterations of this (iMac/US/warranty) included the verbage "90 days telephone support", but the current version makes absolutely no mention of telephone support; the only thing mentioned is hardware:

Well, my 27" iMac screen is now tilting. I didn't hear a crack but left for a few hours and now the screen doesn't hold position. Mine is a late 2013 model (November). So figure that, happened yesterday afternoon. Have 3.5" paper towel spindle holding it level for now until I get to the Service for repair. Did find in the forum archives a few incidences of this nature.
