Movie Won't Download from iTunes on iPad

I recently purchased two movies from iTunes using a gift card I got for Christmas. I started the download and once the first movie got too about 3.2 GB of 6.2' it stopped and started over for no apparent reason. I tried multiple times to download both movies with no luck the first 24 hours. Was hoping to have it for my flight for my vacation. Over the course of the next three days I have tried downloading the first movie at least 15 times on various WiFi networks, It always begins the download and then either restarts it on it's own or now gives me an error message saying the movie cannot be downloaded at this time, please try again later. I finally got the second movie to download after 10 attempts, but still no luck with the first. I know for certain I had a continuous WiFi connection every time. I am EXTREMELY frustrated at this point. I still have remaining dollars to spend from my gift card, but figure why even bother? I really hope someone can give me an idea which works. So far I have deleted the beginning download on multiple occasions and also tried restarting after this 4 times and nothing seems to work.

I have had the same problem downloading rentals for months, trying everything suggested here until I cleared 16 Gb of free space on my iPad for a 3.2 Gb movie, which worked! It didn't work with only 12 Gb free and now everything works. There must be some REALLY inefficient storage management going on the iTunes download process. Try making massive overkill space available and try it aging. Bummer dude!

Same issue for me. Sometimes the downloads eventually work, but often it just keeps restating over and over, running down the battery over time even if plugged in. Plenty of space on the iPad. I have tried turning off the autolock, thinking maybe it was going to sleep. But there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the failure... So annoying. Does Apple ever actually step in with a suggestion? Has anyone tried to get help from them?

Yes, I to would like an answer. There was 5+ GB available space on my iPad 4, try to download a 4.2 GB movie, download would process to about 2+ GB, then stop. The download would not pick up from where it left off, the available space went down, I freed more space to 7+ GB available, then went to download again. Have no idea what consumed the 2+ GB available space. Same thing happen. Movie never downloaded. Available space is 1.2 GB. No idea what is using this space. No app has increased in usage.

Tried forced restart, backup, disconnect from wifi… looks like previous suggestions aren't working either.

Any help would be appreciated.

I went back to Apple on Friday. They reset it again but this time he made it reinstall the firmware. He said he couldnt tell me how to do it but I might see him do it anyway. I believe he just plugged it into itunes when the iPad was rebooting and held the home button. Thats my best advice if anyone is interested in trying it, obviously Apple doesnt want us doing it on our own so be careful!

Did it fix it? Eh, I can't say for sure. The iPad runs nicely again and I was able to download and store 10 movies. But my Settings>General>Usage still shows "No Data" for videos. He told me if it continues to be a problem bring it back and the last step is to just replace it. I dont have a warranty with them or I would have just asked to do that since Ive made several trips. I do have a third party warranty and even though I'm able to download that many movies for once I have a feeling there is still an underlying problem since the usage never reads the storage properly. My wife's iPad always reads her videos storage and she never had problems downloading her movies. I guess ill give it another week and if its still a problem i'll pay the deductable and hope the problem was only my iPad.

I am quite sure this is a problem with the way iTunes uses working space during downloads. You need WAY more free space than the size of the download would suggest. I tried everything and found that freeing up LOTS of space always solves this problem and nothing else does. See my post from 2/11 on this thread and try freeing up all the space you can. You need many extra gig free.

Update on my situation: I went in and got a replacement iPad today. I started fresh again not using an iCloud back up and started reinstalling everything. I made sure to get the newest update also which makes everything faster. I downloaded movies and looked in my "Usage" hoping to see it finally showing me something other than "No data" but it still does show the same old "No data" even though I've downloaded 3 movies. I can say that no movie download has failed for me this time but its still early. This is so weird, I thought it not reading my movie storage would have been linked to my original iPad but it appears to follow me around now. Its not really a problem I suppose as long as the downloads continue to work fine.

Another update: I had to go back to Apple and get another iPad. I have a Verizon iPad and I couldnt access my account, the iPad said "Could not activate" but data worked fine. I called Verizon, they claimed the iPad was no an original Verizon iPad and Apple had rebuilt it with other carrier's parts. Apple was great in helping me, they assured me they are new from the factory. The Genius was willing to swap it again just to be sure it wasnt the iPad's fault. Sure enough it wasnt so I had to set up my iPad again. Verizon still hasnt fixed my account, their support can't even get into it. Problems seem to follow me and my accounts lately! This new iPad...is great! It's still a 3rd gen but I can download movies without fail and fast. It also shows me exactly how much space my Videos section is taking up (13GB). The only thing I can say I've done different is turned off home sharing. I never used it anyway, but I did notice my iPad started reading the right amount of movies stored after that. I cant say whether it was directly related or not. iOS 7.1 has made the iPad faster and more responsive.

Other than Verizon having major problems I think my iPad is fixed. I'll report back if it goes wrong again.
