The topo map option is now gone from Aperture?

Just confirming that this is the case. Is there no way now to get a useable reference map when tagging GPS info? Most of my pics don't have gps data until I add it later. Pretty much impossible to do with these street maps or satellite views when 99% of my pics are in the backcountry.

Don't remember that there was a topographical option for the maps in Aperture.

Just the standard, road, satellite and hybrid which are still there.

Aperture 3.4.5 had this: Satellite, Road, Terrain. I just restored my My Aperture 3.4.5 to be able to see contour lines of equal height again. That makes it much easier to check the GPS tracks for consistency with the timezone settings of the imported images.

And neither of those solve the issue of photos i have that aren't tagged.

I use the following method to geotag the scans of my old slides:

  • Find the exact loction in Google Earth or Google Maps; there are usually several geocoded photos shown in Google Earth, even out in the wild, so have I reference photos for free. Then mark the spot with a places pin on the map and copy the GPS coordinates from the Info panel.
  • In Aperture I open "Manage My Places" and create a Place from the GPS coordinates and assign it to the photo.
  • If you have Graphic Converter, you can use a shortcut: GraphicConverter has a command to geotag the currently edited photo with the GPS position that is currently viewed in Google Earth.

In Google Earth:

And in "Manage My Places" in Aperture:

Enter the coordinates - first the latitude, a comma, the longitude to create a new place.
