Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have HBOGo through Comcast. As soon as I start watching a movie the closed captioning is on. Press the CC button and nothing happens. I've just set up airplay on the ipad with a pioneer receiver, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I have ipad selected on that. Is there a way to disable closed captioning either on the ipad or on hbogo? I have IOS 7.0.4.

The line that shows you how much time elapsed is the scrubber bar. The word bubble is a speech bubble. Until your reply I didn't know either. 🙂
I had the same problem / issue with the HBO NOW App (on my iPad). Subtitles or captions would not turn off despite previously being able to turn them on and off at will. The caption icon was lit in blue (meaning I had turned them on) but nothing happened if I pressed it.
After reading through several threads of advice, including this one, I tried fixing it via the Settings Menu: Settings >Accessibility > Subtitles & Captions but nothing was fixed.
Then I looked at my Netflix App and, after starting a random video, I deselected / turned off the subtitles and captions. THAT WORKED!
They really need to fix this bug (hint - hint Apple iOS Team &/or HBO Now iOS App Developers).
Also, I really appreciate everyone who contributed here - you helped me a lot.
