Fonts Not Displayed in Font Book

Since installing Mavericks, Font Book doesn't display the fonts that are installed on my Mac.

It won't display the fonts that were installed, system or other. The fonts that I had transferred over from my previous Mac show up in any program, like Pages or Sibelius, but they aren't being shown in Font Book. When I start Font Book, there are various collections that I have made listed on the left hand side but the right hand portion of the window always says "No fonts selected."

I had tried rebooting and emptying the cache, repairing the disk, and re-installing Mavericks. None of these seemed to help. I hear of people having problems when they hit 1000 fonts, but I have maybe 300 at most. Also, the program doesn't seem to freeze, it just doesn't seem to do anything.

Any recommendations?

This is strange. After upgrading to Mavericks (10.9.1) I have the same behaviour. FontBook V 5.0 (250) does not show any font list but the collection list. Behaviour and Main window as documented by RowBear. Deleting FontBook Prefs and Font Caches with reboot does not help.

Clicking "Resolve Manually" (the only thing that works) gets me this:

User uploaded file

of cause I do not have this strange font installed (verified by FontExplorer X Pro and a CLI find over /).

Buttons in this dialog do not work (reveal, next, prev) or do not resolve the problem (cancel, resolve).

I have this problem too. I don’t know what’s causing it, but I’ve discovered a workaround. Type something (anything) into the search box and fonts will appear in the list. Then delete the contents of the search box and you shoudl have the full list for whatever collection you had highlighted.

Everything appears to work normally after that until you switch collections again, at which point you have to repeat the search trick to display the contents of the new collection. I wonder if this has been reported as a bug…

You've tagged on to an old thread.

Please go to Maverics, and select "Open new Topic."

Please be very specific about the problems you're experiencing in your new post.

Are Word documents coming out wrong, or just in one application (for instance, Safari),

Are you having problems with one specific font, or all fonts.

Did you ever figure out a solution? I was having the same problem. I just purchased a desktop with a data transfer from my MBP. The fonts weren't showing up in Pages and I couldn't fine them in Font Book either. Turns out they did move over to my new computer and I was able to pull them over to Font Book from Finder.

I was experiencing the same problem. Then I went and checked permissions on the folder /Library/Fonts (right click on folder > Get info) and noticed that there was no mention of my account name. So I added that (clicked the lock first to enable editing of permissions, then used + at the bottom of the panel to add my account) and gave myself Read & Write access. I also used the "Apply to enclosed items" function that expands when you click the gear icon below the Sharing & Permissions panel. From that moment on, Font Book has been operating normally and all fonts are visible it its window.
