Exporting Error Message (-12348)

I'm having the same issue today when exporting a 5K video to H.264.

Any solution to it other than creating a ProRes, which is a magnitude of a larger file?

What is your FCP X version? (this thread is over a year old)

Did you try deleting render files, turn off background rendering, export without rendering first?

I'm on the latest versions of Fcpx and OS X .

Export to ProRes is without issues, just H.264 is the one that fails.

Try it for yourself and you should see.

I did it with just one clip into a 5K project, largest pixel resolution.

I'm not sure but it may be H.264 does not support 5K?

It's just sad in that case Apple 1) provided that invalid option and 2) the error message is that Windoze level cryptic. Both I'd consider to call it a product defect.

I agree that the way this is handled bad.

I did a few quick tests. Created a tiny project with just a 2 second generator on the timeline. At 5K the export crashed; changed project settings to 4K, export fine. Then I exported the 5K as ProRes, opened in MPEG Streamclip and tried to export to H264 there. Export also crashed, bringing the program down with it.

TThe highest H.264 profile 5.2 used by Sony XAVC has a maximum frame size of 4096x2304. ITU H.264 and MPEG-4/AVC H.264 do not support higher frame sizes. If you working with 5K you need to know what you're doing.
