I used 1234 as recommended by another user. I didn’t recall ever setting a PIN for restrictions and now it seems it was set during an up date. I would suggest before resetting phone try the default 1234. Work for me

I actually followed your instructions and there is no number that reflects the restriction passcode. I already know what the restriction passcode is but I wanted to test out your directions to see if they are accurate. Also, you say to look for <integer> XXXX</integer> in the plist file but there are a lot of these tags. For example, I have an iPad and the restriction passcode is 9999. I don't see 9999 any where in this plist file. There are other numbers that appear in these tags but not 9999.

Which Apple device and iOS version did you use to write these directions? Which iTunes version were you using? You might want to clarify your directions.

It may sound a bit crazy, but after 15 failed attempts to enter the restriction password I "supposedly" set up, the combination 1111 WORKED!

Not like I would ever choose that set of numbers, but the good news is you can give it a try and hope for the best. If this combination doest work, try 2222 or 3333... etc.

PS Iknow it is a pain in the neck to keep trying wrong passwords because the phone will not let you try another in 15 mins or 1 hr, but you can cheat the system by adjusting the time manually, that way you can try them back to back.

Huge Thank You to shyam55!

The "

Files/Library/Preferences/com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist" to find the hash and salt plus the excellent link to "http://ios7hash.derson.us/"

worked a charm!

An immense relief after hours, over several days, spent trying to find a solution.

I got error -37 umpteen times when I tried the following:

<key>SBParentalControlsBlockTimeIntervalSinceReferenceDate</key>

<real>362258969.244102</real>

<key>SBParentalControlsEnabled</key>

<false/>

<key>SBParentalControlsFailedAttempts</key>

<integer>0</integer>

<key>SBParentalControlsMCContentRestrictions</key>

<dict>

<key>countryCode</key>

<string>us</string>

</dict>

<key>SBParentalControlsPIN</key>

<string>1234</string>

Soo, you have already gotten a lot of replies, but this worked for me at least 🙂 28.03.2016, on ios 9.3

Connect iPad to a computer and make a backup on iTunes.

Afterwards you download pinfinder from this site https://github.com/gwatts/pinfinder/releases, and choose the file fitting your operative system.

Unzip the file, and run the program; you will recieve your passcode.

Thank you!! Having spent all evening becoming VERY CROSS INDEED about this restricted password, your fix worked like a charm (and I am not a techie at all). I do not recall ever setting this and certainly not when forced to reset my iPad 18 months ago. It is not a number which meant anything to me whatsoever.

OMG - god bless you whoever you are!

I been struggling for a year to recover my passcode - i googled everywhere and tried 0000 and 0123 as most had suggested it was the default code.

IT WASNT! 1234 - worked!!!

A whole year - sometimes nearly 5 times a day (As i had to wait an hr for it to allow me to try again).

Thankyou a billion trillion times! xxx
